Patrolling
Since I can't find it in the manual, about how much patrolling militia do I need to kill the unrest from 200% taxes?

Re: Patrolling
Quick rule of thumb:-
Every 10% over 100% raises unrest by 3. Every 10% under gets rid of 3 unrest.
It takes roughly 10 troops to get rid of 3 unrest.
So in your case 100 militia should do it.

Re: Patrolling
I think the following is correct, but may be wrong.
There is no guaranteed formula for how much patrolling troops reduce unrest, but as with trying to find stealth units, high AP or flying helps more. This is logical if you consider that you are 'looking' for unrest/trouble makers.
Unrest is also reduced by 1 for every 3% the tax level is below 100% (from the manual). So 70% taxes reduces the unrest by 10. Positive dominion also has a chance of lowering unrest by 1.

Unrest naturally drops by 5/turn default, this is why 0% Tax drops Unrest by 35, so the 70% Tax would yield -14.
Militia are really poor Patrollers, unless they just popped up for free.

Can't say I've observed this. Unrest drops by roughly 35 if taxes are zero due to (100/3)+1 = 34.33, and I'm guessing there's some rounding involved in there somewhere (maybe high dominion drops it by 1.5 or something) to account for the extra 1.
Also, if I see any of my +ve dominion provinces on 1 or 2 unrest, I usually manually set taxes to 100, and wait for the +ve dominion to reduce it to zero. This sometimes takes a few turns to happen, but if unrest reduced by 5 every turn, 1 or 2 unrest would always reduce to 0 the next turn. I certainly have never seen this from my experiences.

personally I think there is a *chance* that unrest declines by 1d per turn. Certainly it is not 5 per turn.
From the manual, speed, flying, and precision (well and pb bonus) make better patrollers.
Many times, however, I will *not* patrol, due to the population loss.

Re: Patrolling
Forgot my rule about repeating things I read others state as fact.
I'll do some more testing though, but I'm quite positive there is -some- baseline reduction, it just seemed close enough to the stated 5 that I never bothered to look more closely.
