Richard please help!
Sorry to make a complaint, but since the change of the server this forum and especially the archives with the downloads are virtually unusable. The downloads are extremely slow at any time of the day (and it is definitely the server of shrapnel games as limiting factor) and after 20 minutes an attempt to download a race from the archives at rates of about 500bytes/s (!) was terminated unsuccessfully.
I like this forum very much, but to wait more than a minute just to open a single topic is not acceptable for me.

Re: Richard please help!
i have not noticed that at all.. could it be an issue with the route from your ISP to shrapnel? if these forums are running excessive javascript or client side calls, could it be a performace issue on your PC (wich in truth, is an issue with an overuse of client side processing, if thats going on)
of course, i have not really looked into how these forums run.. so im just guessing. all i can say for sure, is that its not slow over the crappy 56K modem im using right now.

Re: Richard please help!
It's not on our end, since the change our servers have been running faster.
In fact I just got a 100kb/sec download getting something from the SE:IV Archives.

Re: Richard please help!
Downloads appear to be working fine for me as well. Hey Richard, nice new look. I am not a big fan of UBB, but I must admit, what you've done to it so far is great. (Ok, so I suck up once in a while. )
Running this server, especially with all the downloads, must cost a fortune. Thanks for doing it.

Re: Richard please help!
Q, are you using a browser other than Internet Explorer? That could be part of the problem. The warning label that the site is "optimized" for IE isn't nearly large enough, IMO.

Re: Richard please help!
I am using Internet Explorer 5.50. And for me the difference to the speed before the server change is really big! Any more ideas what could be the cause???

Re: Richard please help!
Well, at home I run Opera on a P133 and a 33.6 modem. It's not lightspeed but it's quick enough.

Re: Richard please help!
At my office, I browse using Netscape & haven't had any problems. I use IE at home (I'd use Netscape, but I don't have a Version compatible with W2K & don't want to pay for one), but I haven't checked this site from home since the server upgrade, so I can't say if it's an IE problem or not. I suspect not, but then again I like blaming things on Microsoft, so...

Re: Richard please help!
DirectorTsaarx, which Version of Netscape are you using? I "downgraded" to Communicator 4.75 a while back, and I can't even get it to load the Shrapnel main page about 75% of the time.
While I'm on the subject, would somebody please update the Intel Forums dogtag? It currently goes to the "this page has moved, please update your bookmarks" page.

Re: Richard please help!
I'm using Netscape 4.7 at work; rarely have problems with reading the Shrapnel board.
