Drones again...
I know I'm rehashing some stuff here but I finally got my hands on the game so....
has anyone found a way to make drones worthwhile? I understand the concensus is that they are worth a damn.
Has anyone modded them to make them a more useful tech?
Thanks,
Ken

Re: Drones again...
Drones are NOT useless - they require no maintanance. You can stockpile them in peacefull time and then annigilate your enemy.
If you think they need some modding - the most obvious way is to reduce "default" supply usage by drones (change the entry in settings.txt) . It will keep them alive even after deploying in space. Another option is to increase drone warheads damage (change components.txt). Turn them into Doom Weapons !

Re: Drones again...
You may have a look at the mod I posted in this forum: drone supply use only 100/turn. Cost of drone components (except weapons) reduced to 50%. Increased speed of drones.
In my games this makes drones quite valuable, especially if you are psychic or if you fight against psychic races.

Re: Drones again...
Newbie question here.... I've looked through the forums, manual, and Online help and I'm stumped. It says that once you launch a drone it will head to the nearest enemy target and ram it. I have drones equiped with the explosive ship to ship wareheads, but when I launch my drones they bee-line towards the maps border and cower away from the target. I can't click on them as it treats them as "allied unit" and it as if I'm trying to target them. Any help would be cool with this one--maybe I need some kind of targeting computer on the host ship? Dunno, thanks for any help!

Re: Drones again...
It could be the details of the strategy you have assigned to the drone designs. They follow a strategy you can define under empire settings (like any other) and assign with the design window. If it is set not to target ships, they might do that, for instance.

Re: Drones again...
I don't know what I did wrong, but I did everything the same way I did it before and it works now. I did check the strategy settings (didn't know I could predefine that, thanks btw) and they were set to kamikazee. It works now though, neat things them drones! Thanks again!!!
