\"Slow production\"
Probably a simple question with an answer somewhere in the docs, but I couldn't find it in a quick perusal this morning.
One of my planets shows a message in yellow at the top of the queue dialog, telling me that the planet is in "slow" mode or something. Is that the result of me doing an emergency build?
Thanks!

Re: \"Slow production\"
Just to flesh out the answer a bit, you are stuck in Slow mode right after you exit Emergency Building for as many turns as you spent in Emergency mode. IOW, if you Emergency Build for 5 turns, you'll be Slow Building for the following 5 turns.

Re: \"Slow production\"
To further elaborate on the subject, say you have a new colony producing at 2000. Emergency puts it at 4000 and slow at 1000. 10 years in normal mode = 20000, 10 years of which the first five is emergency and the next five is slow = 5*4000 + 5*1000 = 25000. Meaning you get 5000 extra production points. Could come in handy if you are building expensive facilities like space yards or big badass ships. Be careful though. Don't do emergency for too long as that slow build can kill you if your enemy come calling at the wrong time.

Re: \"Slow production\"
One good thing to do if you can is build the level one facilities while you are on slow build. If you have enough population they still only take one turn. That way you are really saving a lot because you are only losing capacity that would be wasted anyway.

Re: \"Slow production\"
Yes, that is good, but you need quite a large population for that. I'm not sure how large but considering the slow population growth it takes some time to get it unless you seriously deplete your homeworlds population which aint much fun imo as you will lose production that way. I'm not at home now so I can't check just how big a population is needed.

Re: \"Slow production\"
The emergency/slow production thing ought to be reworked, because you actually get more net production if you alternative between slow and emergency every other turn. 50% + 200 % > 100% + 100%. This is another element of the game that encourages micomanagement. If something takes 3 turns to build, I build it at normal speed for one turn and emergency at 1 to get it done in 2 turns. Then I use my 1 turn of slow to build fighters or satellites (or a cheep facility).
Using emergency build should have side affects such as losing a level of happiness (people hate overtime) and using up more resources do to waste(capacity might be doubled, but the cost could be tripled)).
FYI: I'm always flipping this flag around to micromanage my building. I'd like it if they fix this, so that there would be less incentive, except in true emergencies.
