can you cast wither bones when your own undead are in melee ?

does the battle ai override it or can you cast wither bones into meeleeing troops ?

because this way you would damage both your own and the enemies undeads .
so does this work or not ?

Yes, the AI has no objections to inflicting friendly fire if you tell it to do so. In fact, it'll even preferentially target your own troops sometimes, since it isn't aware of deep and insightful tactics like "leading the target" or "missing to hit". Thus, it will aim directly at the target, and, naturally, miss and hit something else, probably something of yours.

So what? You're Ermor. What do you care if you cremate some of your troops. There's plenty more where they came from ...

		Some ideas...
Staff of Storms grounds the vampires, so you can cast Wither bones once or twice safely. You probably won't have air magic though.

Banefire Archers could work, but would be expensive chaff if the vampires get to them. Risky.

If the commanders of that army are not undead you could try casting something that has no effect on undead. Quess who will be targeted...
