Default A feature wanted: Read the in-game sent message.

The subject itself said pretty much. We'd love to see a feature come up in the next version that allow players to read (or even edit) their messages sent that turn. Lack of this ability stirred a number of mp games recently, and that leads to unnecessary wars (even flames to a degree) between people.

This feature will not only save you a lot time to memorize what you said, but also prevent accidents from happen in the case of "redo the turn".

Quote:

Now that I think of it, I may have forgot to resend it when I redid that turn.

Quote:

Man, I hate it when I do that! Or when I log onto a game to check on the situation and I accidently click:redo from start.

Please consider this request an urgent need; you'll save thousands lives in the dominion by doing so.

--------------extra request------------

one that is very simple.
on the battle report message we see how many troops are engaged and how many are killed in it, but on a castle-storm report all we get is "blahblah has been captured!".
I don't think it's hard to implement, so why don't you please give us a detailed report on storming battle?

As a corollary, message logging would be nice.

... If I want to properly do an AAR one of these days, I'm going to have to self log thoroughly, my own reasons messages, etc.

I am very glad you included that reset messages option. That's helped save thousands of my people so my own death scales can kill them off.

The examples you give seem to be caused by people hitting "redo from start". I dont see how your request would fix that.

Isnt there a button to clear the messages that have been sent. We requested and got that one. That was so that if we re-entered the turn before hosting and we couldnt remember what we had sent then we could cancel it and send another. Its not editing but it was alot easier to get put in.

As far as the logging thing, I would like to see that also. Probably the easiest would be to make it a debug level option that puts the game messages into the game log which is already in plain text format. There is a ton of info in there already. It does record all of the messages. I can see who sent messages to whom, who sent gold and how much, who sent gems and which type and how many, who sent equipment and what was sent, slaves, etc. The only thing that doesnt seem to get recorded in the log is the text of messages.

One point of interest: I've done the "Redo from start" thing myself, and it's usually obvious immediately that you have done so.

Easy fix: Escape/"Quit without saving". Then go back to the game, and click "Continue" instead. You keep all the changes you made before.

Done it many times, myself, including in (team) MP. : )

I kind of agree that the message system is a bit bothersome. I'm not too fond of it, especially since I prefer to have communicatins in the game rather than by mail (adds an aspect of uncertanity and slower diplomacy to the game).

I think JK is more of a mail person and is of the opinion that you can communicate better with mail and that the message system is a minimum to use by those who doesn't know how to use mail . He is also not too inclined to make a texteditor , since it is quite a lot of work compared to write a simple string, as I believe it is atm.

Regarding the battle reports on sieges. Since attacks on castles are executed in a different manner, a battle report would demand that JK writes new code (not just copies) for the report IIRC. This is doable, and might happen, but probably not with the next patch.

Regarding the next patch, it will be mostly stuff I have made, since JK is in India for half a month more, and then he's back to his ordinary daytime job. Thus mostly simple bugfixes and balance issues (stuff that I can handle) and two new nations, EA Fomoria and LA Pythium. Perhaps a map, but my map project is too grand scale to become finished (if I'm realistic).

Although the map project does look very nice, whenever it does get finished.

Thinking about this, the thing I don't get is that if you LOSE the battle you get the battle report as normal. It's only if you win that you get a non-message. Even if attacks on castles are different from normal attacks, can fortress wins really be all that different from fortress losses?

It doesn't sound different , but I have no clue. I just know JK hs been a bit annoyed by siege reports. And by complaints about them. In his dry way of putting it: 'People can count, can't they', or something to that extent

If there is a report for loosers the report might have been implemented and it's just a bug that you don't get it in wins.

I'm guessing the intelligence clerks are too busy celebrating over a successful storming that they can't be bothered with filling out reports.

"Sir! We won! We won! We have taken ownership of the false-gods home castle!"
"And what were the casualties?"
"Ummm... ****. I forgot to count. Not too bad I think. Maybe."
