Routed defending forces but... battle report indicates loss

Perhaps a silly question. Attacked Abyssian PD with a Gygja and foul spawn. Battle screen shows "The Armies of Abysia are routed" after a close fight. However the battle report indicates I lost as does the possession of the province. Thoughts? No turn limit hit on the shown sequence though the Gygja was at 160ish fatigue. Does the mage need to recover to <100 fatigue inside the limit to actually win the province?
