Environmental Resistance
What does the Environmental Resistance racial characteristic do?

Re: Environmental Resistance
Right now, it decreases the effect of bad 'conditions' on your race's ability to reproduce. A race with 'normal' Environmental Resistance can have it's reproduction reduced to zero by 'harsh' conditions, for example, but a race with +20 percent Environmental Resistance would continue to reproduce at a reasonable rate.

Re: Environmental Resistance
Really? I remember Posts saying that its effect was just like reproduction, a straight +/- X % growth
If it means better growth on harsh planets, but no effect on optimals, that would be the best.

Re: Environmental Resistance
Every 5 points in env. res. raises pop growth by 1% regardless the conditions. If you put 81% to env. res. and add 3% to pop growth, you get some extra points with a compensated modifier.

Re: Environmental Resistance
Doesn't environmental resistance affects happyness too?

Maybe, I think the manual claims so. But I cannot remember any successful tests on that, would be hard to observe I guess. My settings are always psychotic/bloodthirsty and environmental resistance at 81%... without any severe mood problems, it is easy to keep the pop jubilant, so if there is a modification this should be just marginal. Found a nice Thread on the Env. Res. issue:

Re: Environmental Resistance
Thanks for that link PsychoTechFreak.
I did a test of my own and found the following:
On all non-deadly planets, Environmental Resistance raises reproduction by 1% per 5 points spent in it, regardless of the conditions. On deadly planets, reproduction is always 0%. You have to raise or lower ER by a full 5% to get each plus or minus to reproduction. I did notice some weird effects on happiness. If you lower ER, then happiness drops to indifferent. A UPC or Medical Lab causes happiness to fluctuate between happy and indifferent every turn. If you raise Happiness to 110, then you can avoid this effect.
The attached text file has the data from my test.
