Default Help! Components are magically disappearing...

This is rather annoying. I'm using the latest Version of SE4 (not Gold). I just finished creating a new racial trait, and a whole set of techs and components to go with it. I put all the new stuff at the bottom of each data file to prevent it from interfering with anything else, and gave all my weapons and components unused family numbers, etc. to avoid having any conflicts. However, once I started up a new game using my new technologies, (which start at tech level 0, BTW) it seems like all the standard weapon components disappear. The ones that start at lvl 1 are at lvl 1, but there are no weapons available to start with, and there are no "expected" components if I look under the research menu. Does anybody know what's wrong?

I am not sure that I completely understand your problem, but you might wanna check for double blank lines in your components.txt. Everything below a double blank is ignored.

You can post your work, and maybe someone can take a look at it.

I'd double-check the tech areas file. But ya, post examples or we'll just be guessing.

What are the families of your new components? The same as some of the old components? You may have just 'covered them up' with your new stuff. Have you got the 'Only Latest' box checked in the ship design window? Uncheck it and see if the lost components don't reappear.

3 things can be happening.

1, you accidently messed up the family numbers and gave the game doesn't know what to do.

2. Are you adding components in different spots in the components.txt file and not at the end? If so, that is your culprit.

3. Most likely you put an extra blank line in an odd spot and it's voiding stuff out.
