Default AI Mods

My experience with Space Empires III was that the AI was good, playing a very respectable game. But we all know modders always go above and beyond the original developer

I was wondering what AI "upgrades" exist out there, and how they rank. I'm looking more for stuff that stays true to the original game, rather than adding new races, but I'm open to all ideas.

I'm not really interested in cheating AI, only "tries its best" ones.

P.S. Are races tied to AI, or is it like SE3 whereby ship style was picked seperately from the AI type?

TDM is the only AI mod for the stock game. It does add a lot of new races in addition to strengthening some of the standard race AIs, but they are much, much stronger than the stock SE4 AIs.

Races are tied to a specific set of AI files. It would be possible to add each race manually and load up one of the options in the AI folder. The defaults are Aggressive, Defensive and Neutral. You could snag the AI files from various races, create appropriate folders in the AI folder (renaming all the files), and they would then be available for use when manually creating an AI empire on game start up. But if you want a random set of AI races, then they will use the AI files in their race folder, or default to one of those three options in the AI folder for missing files.

Absolutely TDM is the way go. ALL the AIs are great and there are NO changes to the se4 standard play style.
