OT: Know any good Canadian chemical suppliers?
Well, do you? I'm looking for a Canadian supplier, American won't do due to restrictions on shipping chemicals across the border, and prohibitive shipping fees. Don't worry, I'm not planning on cooking drugs or things like that Just trying to get the chemicals so I can create a few SAFE mixtures, such as thermite.

Sigma-Aldrich likely have a warehouse based out of the Vancouver area.

Re: OT: Know any good Canadian chemical suppliers
I have purchased laboratory-grade chemicals for work from Anachemia and Fisher Scientific. I am in Vancouver. Fisher is in Ontario but Anachemia has a local office in Richmond.

Well, after it's lit maybe However, it is quite stable before, during, and after creation. After all, its just a mixture of powdered Iron (III) Oxide and powdered aluminum. It's not heat, shock or flame sensitive, so yeah, I consider it fairly safe. Seeing as how it takes massive heat (such as burning magnesium) to set it off, and not even the heat of a blowtorch is enough to light it, it's pretty safe. But after it's lit...well you better hope it's not on something you value too much! Can't put it out with water or smothering...not to mention the fact it reaches extremely high temperatures...in the thousands of degrees Celcius. I'm not just some goof messing around, I have a bit of knowledge when it comes to chemistry!
Anyways, thanks for the name Kwok, it should help a lot.

Re: OT: Know any good Canadian chemical suppliers
Hmmm, well nothing has panned out so far in my chemical hunting quest. So I figured I'd bump this back up to the top, and see if anyone has any other companies they could recommend to supply small amounts of certain chemicals to a private citizen in Canada? Again, help would be very much appreciated!
Canadian chemical regulations suck. Anything possibly or remotely related to pyrotechnics is restricted, and usually unavailable for sale. Sometimes laws just suck.

Oh ... cheat, cheat, cheat ...
everyone knows you get the iorn oxide by moistening steel wool an leaving it to rust. And the aluminum dust by taking a steel file to an aluminum ladder. You kids these days with your shortcuts.

Yep, I have tons of rusting iron around my house here, but I'm just too lazy to take a file to it and get enough rust! Which is why I was looking for the easy route. But the easy route is expensive. So I'll make my own rust. As for aluminum, well that's simple. I have a half pound of pure aluminum that I cast into a throwing star shape in metal shop class at school a couple years back. Easy enough to grind down.
