no Opportunity Fire in winSPMBT
I downloaded SP:WaW few weeks ago and noticed some fine options unavailable in winSPMBT.
Opportunity Fire, OpFire, gives you power to decide to fire or not to fire against enemies in opponents turn. It useful if for example enemy advancing in open ground, let's say 15 hexes away. OpFire gives you choise to fire the enemy or not to. If you want, you can wait until the enemy is say 5 hexes away. Believe me, this way you can wash out an entire platoon, perhaps a company with a single machinegun.
It would be very nice to have this included in winSPMBT.

Hi,
In WinSPMBT you have the option to set a reaction range for your units.
It is the hot key "Y" or the third from the top right icon's menu, icon.
You may also activate or deactivate any of the unit's weapons, if you wish!

Because SPWAW and SPMBT are two different creatures.
SPMBT is devised from SPII code, while SPWAW comes from SPIII code. Or so I believe.
Both come from different Software developers. I believe the thing about op fire has been discussed before. IIRC the final answer was the Code will not accept it.

Just a question, if you have 10 AT guns placed against a platoon of Tigers (and scouts) and the effective AT range (in order to hurt the beasts) is 5 hexes, then what would be better?
To fire 2 shots (each time) at each "Tiger" or to fire all the 10 shots (at once) to the advancing "Tiger".
I have "quite enough" experience in both games and IMO to be able to fire all the defensive firepower against a limited number of enemies is much better than to be able to fire only 2 shots...

I suppose we should have a thread titled " Why WinSPMBT is NOT WaW" and explain all of this but most of it has already been discussed many time
We do not allow opfire because it is a cheat against the AI. If a human player has the option of springing ambushes that can ....."... wash out an entire platoon, perhaps a company with a single machinegun." and the AI can only react to what it sees first is that a fair game? And neither is it realistic to be able to destroy entire companies with a single MG.
Opfire as modeled in WaW will *** N E V E R*** be an option for WinSPMBT or WinSPWW2. ( and not becasue as someone said "the Code will not accept it." . )
You've obviously just started playing both games. Play them both then, after you have a good feel for how both games work play the one you like the most. If you think springing ambushes on the AI when it cannot do the same in return is a fair game then you know what choice you'll make

The op fire function is something I never use anyway...
It used to good to use in online play against those gamers who run junk at you to use up your OP fire.
But since the "special" op fire was put in...that has become a moot point.
Both games are good...end of discussion...
no game wars please...as opposed to wargames...

The Opfire is good in small battles. It makes big battles interminable and so I don't use it.

Opfire is o.k. in that it allows me to keep MBT's from wasting shots on soft skinned vehicles in the begining of a turn when the AI runs them up to suck up my fire power, then advance their MBT's. It's no biggie that winSPMBT doesn't have it IMHO, two different 'games' so I use two different game plans.
The one thing that I would like to see in winSPMBT is the ability in campaigns to purchase or replace combat losses outside of the country that I'm playing as core units.
But all in all a really great game. It sure has come a long way from when I found SP:1 and got hooked. Looking forward to the WW2 version!!!
