Esocket error starting SEIV in windows 95?
OK so my newer computer will no longer run SEIV in a playable manner. Thee is about a 3 second delay for everything that I do, if I move the mouse the cursor doesn't move for a few seconds, same with clicking buttons if I manage to get the cursor in the right spot. So I've given up on it untill I can aford a new one. Now I'm trying to load SEIV on my older comp with Windows 95. I used to have no problem with it a few years ago, but now I get an Esocket Error when I try to run it. tried both the gold version 1.60 from the disk and 1.94 patch. It is a fresh install of windows, and I put the network stuff on there even though I don't have it connected to anything, someone else had fixed a similar problem that way. Windows version is 4.00.950,
I have a couple of things I am going to try, but if anyone remembers having a problem like this and what they did to fix it, I would apreciate any help.

Re: Esocket error starting SEIV in windows 95?
TCP/IP mode in Gold added checking for network sockets, which may not be present on your 95 machine. Install TCP/IP Internet protocol in LAN properties and maybe it will work?
On the new machine, try disabling ship animations.

Re: Esocket error starting SEIV in windows 95?
Thanks I'll try that when I get home.
On my new machine, it does that even in the game setup screens. I've been having problems with it for the last two years, being windows XP there is no way to fix it that I know of since all my restore points disapeared. Even before that it was questionable. The paging file is gone so I have no virtual memory, changing the setting on that does nothing, literally, it resets itself to 0 as soon as I exit the screen. It's an HP, I've never liked it. I think the HD is dying. A few other problems that I can't remember.

This problem came up before, same issues, same solution. It should work.
As for that XP machine... backup your files to a second drive, format & reinstall.

Re: Esocket error starting SEIV in windows 95?
I was hoping it was something simple like that.
As for XP I have nothing to reinstall from, I would have done that as soon as I bought it. They said the program was on a second partition of the drive, which explained why I have 32 Gb on a 40Gb drive, but I'll be darned if I know how to find it much less use it, if it's really even there.

Get a Knoppix live CD and see if it sees the multiple partitions?
