Default New player looking for help with verbage

Hey all - game is ordered, coming after holidays, and I'm trying to get some handle on the game before it shows (which may be futile). I've found a couple beginner help posts here* and they seem to have gotten some excellent answers, but I sometimes have trouble with the insider language used here. The StrategyWiki on Dom 3 is down, which I where I hoped to see a brief summary of all the lingo and abbreviations used. Is there another concise summary somewhere? Things like suggesting that your SC scales well to beat a WA 9 Bless Van... probably good advice, but not helpful to the new player.

* "Hi, I'm new! And.. uh.. help?" and "Tactics: Principles, Tips, Tricks, and Traps" - I looked at Alexander's stuff but can't tell what of it is for Dom 2 and what for 3.

Hello Aleph,

Anything regarding "at start" strategy/tactics written for Dom2 is usually 90% applicable to Dom3.
About some Domslang :
Scales = the values chosen at start for your nation parameters (Order/productivity/Growth/luck/Magic)Cf manual p39 and 51
SC = supercombatant, a big tough unit boosted with items/spells
Bless = special effect given on the "sacred" units (it's a tag) according to your god (pretender) magic paths/levels- cf manual p48
Van = a sacred mounted unit for Vanheim nation, thought by many as very powerful or just overpowered

Hope it helps !

Thanks... I suspected that a lot of it will clear up in the 300 pages of manual, but at the same time it's definitely useful to be able to understand some of what's going on here so as to have a lens through which to prioritize my reading of the manual. The page numbers in particular were a very nice touch.

Also, ones you get the manual, you have both a general section on strategies AND a short example strategy for all nations available in the original release. One nation has been added in the latest patch.

EDIT: oops... I hadn't noticed that latest post. That's what I get for not updating the page before posting.

Here's a link to a DomII FAQ thread.
