Making the AI use more than just one hull type...
In case you haven't noticed, the AI continues to only pick the largest possible hull type for it's attack ships, which really makes no sense; because with the new sensor layout for systems, you're going to need a lot of cheap light combatants to carry out patrolling and cruising duties, in addition to your heavy battle line.
It would be nice if we could somehow make it so that the AI can build 3 types of attack ships: Light, Medium and Heavy; so that enemy fleets can be a balanced proportion of ships, rather than being super ship heavy.

Re: Making the AI use more than just one hull type...
The AI has the same issue in SE4, but in SE4 it can be modded to build various hull sizes by calling for certain named design types and then only filling in design templates for those names that match a certain size.
Once the AI builds a range of smaller ships, though, I wonder if the SE5 modding system has any way to actually get the AI to patrol systems with any degree of effectiveness. Does anyone know?

Re: Making the AI use more than just one hull type
I've made the AI in the Balance Mod with v1.04 use a more varied array of ship sizes. Typically Destroyer, Cruiser, and Dreadnought are the main ships when at high tech.
The AI in both stock and Balance Mod already has ships on patrol. Stock though uses fleets for this purpose - despite what it looks like, the stock fleets are not moving randomly around but are patrolling their patrol locations (ie warp points to enemies etc). I use individual ships for this instead and reserve fleets generally for actual attack/defense.

I don't know if it's worth it though, considering that adjacent ship sizes take about the same ( short )time to construct.

I'm working on finalizing the details for v1.04 right now, so hopefully 30 minutes or less.
