Default Problem starting game (WinXP)

I'm out of town, trying to play on my laptop, so I don't have the disk with me to reinstall. I've deleted the icon, and when I try to run the game through Start>Run "C:\Program Files\Games\dominions3\dom3.exe" I get:

Nagot gick fel!
myloadmalloc: can't open ./guiborder2.tga

Anyone know how I can get it to run? I was looking forward to many hours of fun this winter break.
Thanks.

There's some memory allocation problem and possibly a missing or problematic tga file in the main Dom3 directory. Can't help you beyond that now.

Yeah, it sounds like you have a missing file. (guiborder2.tga)
You might be able to get around this by copying guiborder1.tga and renaming the copy to guiborder2.tga. Assuming you do have guiborder1.tga.
Even if you don't, I think you can put in any ol' .tga file in their stead. (Though you might have to have it be a 512x512 bitmap that is saved in whatever way the guiborders are currently saved)

If you are just missing a couple tga files.. a GUI replacement should work just fine... Which are included in the latest Standards & Banners mod. (They are located in the mod directory and just need to be moved to the main directory.)

Sounds like a path problem. Calling the exe long distance tries to execute it where you are instead of where it is. Try using the directory browser to go to the Dominions directory and run the exe by clicking on it.

And while you are there you can also right-click it and "create shortcut" then copy that out to your desktop.
