				 turn processing times
How do i reduce turn processing times? adding more memory or a faster processor? these are my specs:
 Pentium D CPU 2,80 mhz
 1,00 GB RAM
 7200 RPM HD
 Nvidia Gforce 7300 GS

What would be the ideal machine for Dom3?

Depends a bit. More memory and a faster processor would do the trick. Also, I suggest you play games that do not include the great freespawn nations R'lyeh and Ermor in the LA, because the number of units on the map increases processing time. You can also use the Better Independents mod to eliminate a lot of the AI chaff hordes. |

A fast CPU and fast memory would help a lot. |

You could go with something like this... |

A supercomputer running Windows XP, now that is something that does not compute.
Oh, and I want the second computer.

 | If it is XP sometimes you can take the guesswork out by setting up perfmon counters (type perfmon on a command line) and running a slow turn. The shear magnitude of option will keep you busy for a while... . Lots of websites for help though (google perfmon).

				 Re: turn processing times
I had major problems on my old computer with turn times up to 7 minutes on the first turn running Win98, not sure at all on the specs. Bought a new computer last spring, memory is almost 3/4 full and my turns are less then 45 seconds on the final turns with 8 people... GET A NEW COMPUTER! |

				 Re: turn processing times
What mobo is that rig on? If it's any good at all you could just buy a decent 2GB kit of performance RAM (will cost $50-$100) and overclock that Pentium D. It's been a while since I've seen somewhat report what they can achieve with those chips, but I seem to recall you can get up to 3.6-3.8 GHz out of them without too much trouble. Alternatively you could just spend $50-$100 on a budget dual core chip--the e2180 still has one of the best price/performance ratios on the market, and costs $70.
But all this depends on having a motherboard worth keeping...otherwise I'd probably recommend a Gigabyte DS3L for ~$90.

And of course if you're going to OC you'll want to upgrade from the stock cooler if you haven't already... the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro is a good cooler for $25-$30, or the Tuniq Tower if you want to go up to the $50-$60 range.

				 Re: turn processing times
During turn processing I always see the CPU being heavily used in DOM_3... adding more RAM will do little to nothing.
