I've checked a bunch of sites and have yet to find any custom maps. I'm lazy and would love to know if there are any for downloading???
Thanks!

Re: custom maps ???
I would think that there are a few, probably affiliated with somebody's roleplaying race.
I started to make a map that would allow FTL as seen in StarTrek, Babylon 5, Starwars.
IE. move to the edge of the starsystem, and warp in whichever direction you feel like. It may take a few turns to reach your destination if it is far away or you have a slow ship.
It basically requires 100 warppoints per starsystem to do it properly, and that takes forever to custom build without a decent Copy-Paste option.
You will probably find more mods for new random quandrant types than you will find complete maps.
Hey, different is good, and random can be different every time!
-------------
As a note, I've finished:
16/16 hyperspace systems
180/180 hyperspace intraconnects.
0/1320 hyper-to-normalspace interconnections(24 per system * 55 systems)
As such, I estimate that I am 13% done.
The count includes both halves of a warppoint as separate entities, since I have to create them independently.

Re: custom maps ???
I posted one in this old thread:
http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/For...ML/002535.html
I still have not finished the solo game I'm playtesting it on. As it happened, I got the isolated starting point for that game. I haven't even looked at the other map I mention in that post in a long time; my PBW games are eating up most of my SE IV time.

100 per system?! What a workload for you! Sounds like an interesting idea though. If you make it through such a gruelling challenge, I look forward to playing around with it. (Actually, B5 seemed to use a limited jumppoint system like the current SE4, but what you describe would be great for a Trek universe.)

Actually, 24 per system (12 in, 12 out), plus 180 hyperspace interconnections.
The hyperspace looks just like B5 hyperspace (using the red nebula pic), but acts just like Trek or Starwars, in the fact that Starships can go to FTL once they reach a good distance from the gravity well (edge of system)
For all three, the point being that ships can take any route they choose to get where they are going, and move around blockades or chokepoint systems.
No player can lay siege to hyperspace, since the random movement ability will cause their ships & mines to rapidly drift away from warppoints. Eventually they will run out of fuel. Even with a quantum reactor, the ships will be scattered by the random movement, and can be attacked individually.
Mines in hyperspace would be really scary, though, since they would change position every turn.
(The previous all assumes that the "system movement - random" ability works )
