Fighting the japanese. Yikes.
Swamplands, 1942, americans vs japanese.. and their infantry are no joke at all!
My guys scurry for cover when they have a man down. Their guys take 1-2 casualties and shoot back anyways. Plus, they don't seem to disperse, however badly shot up they are.
It doesn't help that two thirds of my armour bogged down in the swamps.

Re: Fighting the japanese. Yikes.
Welcome to the Aleutians!
Where tracked and wheeled vehicles are as useless as tits on a bull.
I"ve tried changing the terrian but no use they always end up getting stuck anyway in the gullies between hills.
It's best to forgo armour and tranport until you get to Africa if you chose to go there later.
(jungles are even worse for armour)
Also the japs just don't supress or retreat to well, until you get the platoon leader of that unit.
Good Luck!

Re: Fighting the japanese. Yikes.
JIA had the best infantry at that time. They were best trained, but poorly armed.

Outdated, but not poorly equiped, the japanese soldier was prepared to fight in the jungle, while all others were not, maybe that's the cause of the early victories in the pacific, the tide turned in midway(look, there are 3 fleet carriers sinking ), the japanese lost air advantage, and their supply was a thin line, you want to fight the japanese?get lots of artillery and air strikes, drop big shells over them as air strikes demolish their forces(once the TBF/M becomes avaiable), when they're pinned by the 16inchers shoot'em up, but never hop on a place you can't defend, because 1 turn the japs are screaming as big shells land on their heads, the other turn, BANZAI! they recover and charge your troops

I believe they lost four carriers at Midway (and one at the Coral Sea), but the important thing with the air advantage. The Japanesse had very good poilts and while their planes were poorly armored, they were manuverable and fast.
To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure if you could pay me (at this point) to take on the JIA. Maybe after I get my tatics down better, but not now.

Wasn't the Akagi scuttled to prevent it from being captured?(remember KMS Bismarck), didn't knew about the Sōryū, all 4 were fleet carriers?

Re: Fighting the japanese. Yikes.
Dunno, found notes that their marksmanship was a bit lacking - they were best for sure if you needed infantry to either win or die, but not neccessarily a panacea for all tactical situations - sometimes a retreat is a valid option

Flame units are like weak A-bombs, they kill your own AFVs, even if 100m away. So they are not monster.
