				 Integrating SP with Operational-Level Games
Anyone has any success of integrating Steel Panthers with operational level games like Tiller's Panzer Campaigns, Modern Campaigns, or TOAW?That means using the operational aspects of those games to determine morale, ammo, fuel, front played, etc. The real battle outcome is then done in tactical level via SP on selected battles. That said, the outcome of the battle in SP will affect the number of casualties, etc etc on the unit counter of the operational level games.

I'm thinking of this with multi-player aspect in mind (PBeM), using 3 player 1 as battle creator. And maybe, using WinSP's scenario editor to edit unit properties such as ammo left, movement point assigned (to simulate fuel conservation), morale & experience gained, etc.

The real meat of the game is still on Steel Panthers, with Operational Level games only to determine supply aspects and other operational level mambo jumbos.

 Cheers!

Interesting thought. It would require a fair amount of work with the editor, not particularly difficult, but it could be pretty time intensive and prone to typo errors.

Yea, the more I think about it the more I realize that it'll be so much a tedious task, although not impossible. (particularly for the battle creator). I have the basic concepts already laid down, but there's one thing that's bugging me. In this set up, we need the operational level's unit counters able to be edited to match SP's battle results, and at that I'm no expert (let alone unit editing).

I'm using Tiller's Panzer Campaigns (WW2) / Modern Campaigns (MBT) for the Ops level in mind. This can be actually a great experience for those who crave for a continuum in a military operation, not merely a one off battle (even campaigns in SP are actually a one off battle with some added bits to make it feel like continued battles).

Re: Integrating SP with Operational-Level Games
I have always thought that this would be a great idea. Would this be comparable to Steel Panthers 3 (Brigade Combat)? My idea of a game in this area would be a game based on multiple level brigade operations using military map symbols denoting different types of combat units, and then when the battalions came in contact with each other, then combat would be resolved in Steel Panthers level battalion and below combat using individual vehicles and squads. However, this would probably be a very hard and tedious task to design a game with this complexity. What do you guys think?

I'm not familiar with TOAW, but my pipe dream, like yours, would be a system based on WinSP that sets up a 'command staff' of players controlling battalion size elements, and have one player overseeing the operations, issuing orders, providing reinforcements, etc. on an overview map, with the battalion commanders responsible for seizing objectives, protecting flanks, etc. It would all still be in WinSP, but with a new 'brigade operations online play'-type feature. |
