Morning walk
My morning walk was delayed today so I didn't get out in the early morning cooler temperatures as is my SOP but it needed to be done so I did it. Getting close to the 2Km mark I hear multiple large radial engines and see the B-25. I saw it the other day while driving to one of my appointments. Its not that rare around here so I see it at least once or twice every year flying over but this time I also hear not a big radial but what sounded like a single Merlin, but the only thing with Merlins flying around here has four of them so I'm looking for the source of this lovely sound knowing it's too "serious" sounding to be a civilian aircraft and lo and behold it's a Mustang at about 1500 feet and just as he passed by where I was walking he did a barrel roll.
Glad the walk was delayed

Re: Morning walk
Most exciting things we see out here in the Great Plains of the US is CH-47's and hot air balloons, so that's pretty damn cool! I need to make the time to go out to one of the airshows they do up at KC-K airport...

Re: Morning walk
Cool! You're used to looking at P-51s top-down, rather than bottom-up, which is why you couldn't tell right away what it was.

Re: Morning walk
I knew what it was as soon as it came into view. I was just surprised to see it but I heard it 20 seconds before I could see it through the trees. The roll was a bonus. There was a "not an airshow" nearby this weekend and one of the aircraft scheduled to be there was that P-51 but I didn't know that until I came home and started digging around. It was about 1500 feet and a km away when he did the roll. I thought I caught a flash of yellow when he did it......... now I know why.
Last year a DH Mosquito showed up..... now THAT was a treat to hear and see.

Re: Morning walk
...... and the Mosquito was back again this year and passed over at 8:05 am not far from where I was when the Mustang passed by so the morning walks have been good on a number of levels
