Range Check Error problems
well here I was, happily playing away. submitted all my pbw turns on Friday.
come today and nothing works, getting range check errors everywhere. actually the error only occurs when I click on a sector with certain shipsets (still standard). some shipsets are fine, some generate the error.
i tried a reinstall and same problem
any ideas?
thanks,
askan

Re: Range Check Error problems
Did you try downloading the turn(s) again? You may have a corrupted file.

Re: Range Check Error problems
or maybe reinstall your shipsets? or delete your custom shipsets and have it use the default until you can find out which one is broken?
all else fails, try reinstall? sounds like something with your local system, unless everyone else is having the same problem.

Re: Range Check Error problems
It was my bad.
I was getting the range check errors with all my games (even ones I'de previously played the turns before). No custom ship sets, no mods even.
I reinstalled to a new directory and the problem kept happening.
But I didn't actually reboot coz I was halfway through uploading an 80mb for work. When I rebooted the next day all was fine.
I assume SE leaves some temporary file around somewhere? I'm on Win2k and had no Se4 processes running so I can't understand what the problem was.
Cheers,
Askan

Re: Range Check Error problems
I have recently upgraded to XP and i tried installing SE4 and playing it as usual however it became very difficult as any new games i started would be all black until i minimized and reopend (redrew in escence) the screen.
And any old savegames i tried to open woudl not with the following error... 'unable to open [path]'
I am in dire need of a solution as PBW is going on wihtout me.
Thanks

Re: Range Check Error problems
I have been having the same issue big time. Have you had it happen after playing another game like Civ 3? That seems to be it for me.
