Scenario Question - Draw
So I have been designing and playtesting some of my next batch of scenarios. Some are designed hard on purpose. I have one that is (for me at least) not too hard, but I think on first playing of it, most players will only get a draw (against the AI). I have some that you win just with a MV.
Personally I feel that if a player always gets a DV, its not that much of a challenge.
Was wondering others thoughts on this concept.

Re: Scenario Question - Draw
Draws are perfectly acceptable to me. DV's should not be expected or inevitable especially if it's a historical result. I have one for the next release that if you get a draw you'll be doing well.

Re: Scenario Question - Draw
Thanks, I'll quit over thinking things. I have the first batch of 10 almost done. Working on the next set as we speak. Designing is just about as fun as playing them. lol

Re: Scenario Question - Draw
A tough scenario should challenge a player to try it again to get a better result. Sometimes the second time though can be predictable but a really good one challenges in different ways each time through

Re: Scenario Question - Draw
Hard ones are generally better, those and the ones that have a fun factor are the ones you play more than once. Victory is only sweet if you had to earn it but a tough fight is nearly always good no mater the outcome.

Re: Scenario Question - Draw
The wife and kids are back to school so I have the house (and computer) to myself again.
I am looking forward to playing these when they are ready.

I just thought of this. If your interested in playtesting these let me know. I have most of them balanced out, and have played them quite a bit so I know in the back of my mind where I hide stuff or deployed stuff. I don't like it when I create one of these and it's a DV with little challenge, and so I have tried to make them achieve the historical results and yet be a challenge. In some cases a draw is good as the historical counterpart at others you may fall below what happened historically.
In the one I have been tweaking that involves a M26 and Tiger, I think I have finally gotten it balanced (both human and vs. AI), but you never know.
Also, the Japanese are nice and tough against green US squads lol.

Re: Scenario Question - Draw
Thanks RetLT, I have 10 almost ready and 8 I am still fiddling with (plan on converting over 200, lol, but that is going to take a while, lol).
To the point of playtesting these not sure if I need another set of eyes/hands on them or just keep plugging away at them. The easiest place to place them is in the forums.
I have a couple that use timed objectives (if you have the CD version) and making sure those are balanced it a bit tricky. Also, had one that I expanded and still need to make it harder.

Re: Scenario Question - Draw
As it stands I have 12 that I am happy with, 8 need final playtesting and 210 in planning/development (i.e. scenario conversions from a board game), obvious one step at a time...

Re: Scenario Question - Draw
I don't have the CD version (I really should buy it after all these years) but I will gladly play test anything you have.
I am a big fan of amphibious landings and air drops. The confusion and logistics involved make them more challenging.
I also like scenarios involving unusual battle pairings. US v German and Russian v German are a dime a dozen. US v Vichy French, Italy v France or Japan v Russia are more fun.
Very few scenarios have covered Operation Varsity if you are looking at ideas for new scenarios. A campaign involving the Jewish brigade or the Spanish Blue Division would be fun too.
