OT: How Would You Rate 2002
Now that 2002 is nearly over, how would you rate it? For me, it has been the second worst year of my life, the worst being 1993, and the third worst 1992.
This has been such a completely dismal year, and it just keeps on getting worse with each passing day. If I calculated all of the bad news I have gotten in the Last 15 days, it would equal the total sum of ten life times for a normal person.
I know, I know, it seems that nothing has been going right for anyone for at least the Last three years. 2001 was dismal, but 2002, what a rotten and terrible year it has proven to be.
This has been, in my honest to God opinion, one of the worst years in our countries recorded economic history.
Honestly, they really should add Worldcom, Enron, and many others to the Axis of Evil becuase they have done more to hurt our country than any 10,000 terrorist could ever do.

Re: OT: How Would You Rate 2002
well, i cant think of a whole lot of good that has come out of this year. but i cant think of a whole lot of good that has come out of any year. when it comes down to it, the world just isnt a very nice place. but when it comes down to it, i wouldn't have it any other way.
I dont define my life by pineing after happy memories; I recall how I have grown from strife and hardship. History revolves around war. Kids will read about war, conflict, and political turmoil. Jimmy Carter making peace with half the globe will barely be a footnote.
now dont get me wrong - im not wishing hardship on anybody. and i have probably had things alot easier than most. but its only been easy because i take the bad times in stride. if everything turned all rosey, i think that i would pack up and go somewhere less frickin cheerful.
so even if its been a bad year, you lived through it. lots of other people didnt, and here we all are. so as we're standing hear on top of this scrap heap, look down on the ruins of the old year, and smile about what you have achieved to be on top of it now. but dont get too warm and fuzzy, because there is another mountain to climb before the end of '03.
thank you for subscribing to puke's dime store philosophy.

Re: OT: How Would You Rate 2002
'02 has been a pretty good year for me. It like all the years past have had it's ups and downs. (Like the elevator business...Bad pun I know. )
But I think this year has had more good then bad in it for me. Sure I wrecked my car, sure I had alot of other bad things happening to me this year. But it has all balanced out.
The first half of this year sucked like you wouldn't believe. I thought it was going to be the worst year of my life. But it turned out that about midway through the year or so, probably May-June it started to become a great year. Ever since then things have been going good.
All in all I think this is probably the second best year of my life, maybe the first best but that's pushing it. But of course I haven't had too many years to compare it to so I am sure I will have better and I am sure I will have worse. I just hope '03 starts and ends the way '02 ended.

Like Puke said, Same Stuff Different Day. Or year as the case may be. They're probably going to make a big deal how this sort of thing is never going to happen again -- so cheats will have to get more creative. is all I say.

2002 was the best year of my life. My daughter was born in May, and every day has been a pleasure since then.

Congrats, sachmo, that's nice news.
There is some refreshing wisdom in here. I'm with these guys. It has to do with perspective.
If you were born 100 years ago, you would be in awe at having indoor plumbing.
Sorry it sounds like you are down, Atrocities. Try to appreciate the things that make you happy, despite the terrible crap out there. We all control what we can. Best not to get too down about things we can't affect.

Its been a great year. I'm still lookin' down at the grass instead of up at the roots....
Seriously, to all those that have prevailed thru hardship, it's God's way of building character. I've had a little 'character building' myself....

Re: OT: How Would You Rate 2002
I dunno, I was so hyped for the Millenium. I went to Times Square, and I've never even considered doing that before or since (I usually go to sleep early on New Years Eve -- new year bah humbug )
People were all shocked and relieved nothing bad happened. Took a few years, but it happened anyway, didn't it.
Hey, I'm not trying to bring people down. But really, happiness really only happens close to home. So, take care everybody this upcoming holiday season. Find a little joy wherever you can.

Re: OT: How Would You Rate 2002
Yes indeed, congrats to all of you who are having a great year. I think it might be regional as far as how your year is going. Here in the PNW, we've been hit hard with a lot of job cuts, state funded program cuts, and other bad things. This area was heavy into the Semi Conductor market, and in the Last two years, that market has collaps nearly completely.
Time will hopefully improve things. That is unless you Subscribe to Albert Bartletts theories. (Those just freak me out.)
Seriously, I wish you all continued happyness.

Re: OT: How Would You Rate 2002
My area was hit hard with job cuts as well. In the town I live in there is a plant the builds small motors and so forth. But they are slowly getting rid of everyone and moving the operation to mexico where they can find help for dirt cheap prices. (They had 70% hispanic here anyways, but they had to pay them US wages) but that hurt that too much so they decided, hey lets ruin these peoples lives and get cheap help. It was 450 jobs lost. Also alot of other places are laying off. One of the biggest Semi trailer companys in this region also shut down completly. Company was called Monon Trailer Corp. Then in the town 30 miles south of me one of the biggest automotive manufactures also is laying people off. Subaru/Isuzu automotive is laying off alot of employees. It will be a huge lose because of the amount of workers they had there. I can't remember if they just laying off or shutting down all together. But also another semi trailer company, one of the biggest in the midwest (I think it's midwest) is laying people off. Wabash National Trailer Corp. My brother didn't have a job and he applied there, got hired and was making close to 13 bucks an hour on 2nd shift, (he is 19 BTW), and they were laying people off like crazy but they kept him because he was good at what he did. But then he went and quit the job because he didn't like it. So now he is sitting at home (not my home) doing nothing and making no money not paying his bills, etc.. But I got on him about how the economy is right now and that he should have kept that job. But he said he was 'tired of working' why he quit. So job cuts effeted my area as well. But I didn't have a job at anywhere like that so it didn't hurt me any. I work at home so it's all the better. (Web-designing rocks)
