Need Help - Game won't load

Hi.

We're playing a six player PBEM game of SEIV Gold 1.60. Everything runs fine, just one player is unable to load the game file. The filename comes up, but when he tries to load it, he is not taken to the race selection screen but the following message appears: "There was an error opening file brawl.gam"

This only happened on his computer at work, a university based network pc running windows nt. At home the game loads just fine. Since he planned to do most turns at work (those lucky postgraduate students on their sponsored research projects...

I would be entirely grateful if anyone has any idea what's wrong.

The first thing that comes to mind is that the copy of the .gam file on the work system may have gotten corrupted.

I'd try making another copy of the .gam file that works on the home system, and seeing if the new copy loads on the work system.

Thanks for the reply. We've tried about everything. I sent the file several times and we even copied it from a different pc. I even send the file as a .zip just to make sure. Nothing worked.

This is probably a stupid question, but he is running the same Version of SE4 as everybody else, right? That error message is exactly what he would get for example if he tried opening a 1.60 game using 1.49. I think if he were on 1.78 he'd get the "data files do not match" error. Also he does not have a mod, or the game isnt' a mod game that he doesn't have?

Other than that try uninstalling and reloading SE4.

He is running an unmodded Version 1.60 on both of his PCs, installed from the same CD. At his workplace he can't load the game and at home he can...

Yeah, I don't know. Very wierd. Has he tried ininstalling and reinstalling since this problem?

Is he able to play other games of SE4 on the work PC?

Thanks all for the help. For no apparent reason it simply started working this morning. He just send in the file and things are looking bright!

I just tried to open the 2nd turn for Homecoming 2 this morning and I'm getting an error message, "cannot open game Homecoming2". When I close SEIV, there is a access violation error message with "Read of Address FFFFFFFF"

Any suggestions??

StoneMill and Greybeard. Your problem is the .gam file, not your pc's. I have emailed Sparhawk about it and posted in the game forum.
