population doubles when homeworld rebels !
In my Last AIC game, the homeworld of my neighbors (terrans) rebelled. New empire get a planet with 4B population even though it is a normal medium sized planet and it had 2B under old rule
Absolutely weird !

Actually... I think it just sets it to 4 billion, not doubles.

Re: population doubles when homeworld rebels !
IIRC, I had a huge planet rebel (8B), and when I re-captured it with troops, it had 9.6B (Adv. Storage equivalent). I don't remember if it had more facilities. It was under Devnullmod, though that shouldn't matter.

Re: population doubles when homeworld rebels !
This has happened with 3 planets in the Star Wars II mod.
One planet (Tiny, Hydrogen) with Trade fed (oxygen breathers) population was puppet political partied. When i took the planet, it had 200M population, half Trade fed, half mine!
A hydrogen planet rebelled against its owners, when i took it it had 996 population. This planet managed to colonise another world. When I used puppet political parties on the second world, it gained hydrogen breathing population, despite only being colonised with oxygen breathers.
A planet breaking away from an empire gains the population of that empire whilst keeping its original population.
Wierd or what?

No, it does not. Neither was I correct with the title of the thread. Here is what happens:
When HW rebels, SE add the max. number of population of the planet. In my case, Terrans had 1987 M. After rebellion, it becomes 3987. I rest my case.
Bill Door example is very interesting. It agrees with my assertion, but I never saw it if rebelion planet is NOT HW. But here we have a question of native and non-native population...

Re: population doubles when homeworld rebels !
Could the non-native population be due to puppet political parties being used on the planets? On each of the planets with non-native population puppet political parties was used.
Or due to the population of the planet not being the same as the empire's race?
Or possibly both?
Does having a planet rebel through poor happyness cause a similar effect?

Re: population doubles when homeworld rebels !
When a planet rebels, the new empire's population does magically become breathers of the planet's atmosphere (as opposed to remaining the same type as they were previously)...
Doesn't explain the sudden doubling, though...

Re: population doubles when homeworld rebels !
Another neat thing is that the new empire has all the same techs as the original empire. So you can get lots of new techs if you get them to surrender, which is easy because your score is much higher.
Slick.

Re: population doubles when homeworld rebels !
My guess is when your rebel planet becomes an AI it also gets to have AI advantages. And maybe an AI advantage is a huge population. Which is an Advantage. I had this happen in a game once it was a bright spot on the road to ultimate destruction. I never surrendered as I did have som mines still active on the map somewhere but I did concede the game.
