Default Mod questions

I've been working on modifying some of the data files... I've done work on: Vehicle Sizes, Components, Component Enhancements, and Research.

Everything was going fine until I decided to re-arrange the Components file. Is this a no-no or something? Problem 1 I noticed...saved games were now incompatible with the new components file. When I loaded a game, my ships had some odd components in them. (For instance, a medium fighter equipped with no engines, but 8 repair bay I's!) Second, when I started a new game, on the second turn (always the second turn), the game would lock up on one of the AI's turns.

I'm in the process of re-installing the game Yes, I did make back-ups of the files I modified, but I want to start from a clean install and copy my new files one at a time until I find the one locking up the system...I *assume* thought that its the Components file.

Also, does anybody have a list of the family numbers of all the different components? I didn't want to duplicate that work if someone had already done it...

Thanks for reading!

I'd sure love to have that handy dandy list of component family numbers too..

Well I promise you...If I receive that list (or make it if no one else has it handy)... I'll post it to the SE4 mod forum... Deal?

I have found that if you add the newer stuff to the end of the files then the game works OK.

The game seems to point the component built to it's original position and not what it is. So putting new components into the middle of the file it moves the components down. This does not effect newly designed ships of course as they point to the new positions.

So put the new stuff at the end. I have found no problems with them there.

I posted two lists with family numbers in the mod section.

Use it well.
