Re: (N)GC4 - Game Story Thread
If you get a poor starting position expand quickly - build up a rapid attack force and go at the enemy as quick as possible - you may not win but you will probably affect the balance of power depending on who you attack first.

Re: (N)GC4 - Game Story Thread
The Birthing Season
Before the Grand Lord could address his subjects he insisted on wearing his new clothes..
"Order!, Order in the council chambers."
"Good people, as you know the Birthing Season is upon us once again. However, this season if we do not expand our Colony we will soon perish as a species."
a wave of murmering and whispers spreads across the council chambers as people digest this sad but true fact.
"But fear not, our good colony minister 'Mr. Columbus' has a bold plan to expand our colony to nearby planets and even neighbouring star systems." The gathered crowd takes in a sharp gasp at this announcement.
"I know the idea of leaving your home world is a frightening one, but it is a necessary evil that we must embrace if we are to survive. I now put forth a call for vollenteers to brave the new frontiers that we shall discover. So any who would like the Honor and Gratitude of your fellow citizens please report to the Colony Minister for your new off-world assignments."
Surprisingly the vast majority of people raise their hands in excitement. Eager to become pioneers in this bold new era. The grand Lord was sure this overwhelming interest was due to his wearing his new clothes.
Let the games begin again.
Cheers!

Re: (N)GC4 - Game Story Thread
i strongly suspect that the 'emperer' has no clothes.
* old fiction? story. 'the emperer's new clothes'. see, only wise people could see them. it's amazing how many people saw them.

Re: (N)GC4 - Game Story Thread
On Homeworld
Dokeo strode into the Chamber. Seated in a crescent moon around the front sat a number of Elderly Guardians, and although they were of great age an observer could not fail to notice that they were all of a healthy mind. If a council member were deemed unable to handle the responsibility, they would have been retired to easier tasks without any lack of respect. Comment rang across the chamber as they debated the information conveyed to them. This was not the entire council, only the Elders handling the normal daily routine. Were it needed the entire council could be convened in a much larger room nearby. Waiting patiently Dokeo watched as councillor Broma finished his report. Broma was only slightly older then Dokeo himself, and was presently responsible for food production. Dokeo did not consider Broma’s position any worse than his, for in truth all service to the State was of equal value and in the future Broma may well be given responsibility that some may have considered more important than Dokeo’s duties. A junior scribe, a young member of the Guardians, sat off to one side notating and learning the process of government.
“So in conclusion I can report that food production has exceeded requirements and a healthy reserve is available” finished Broma, bowing to the Elders. The report was hardly any surprise, the technology of the State was easily capable of handling the citizens nutritional requirements.
“The State thanks you, councillor Broma, for your service” spoke the daily head of the council”
“I live only to serve the State” replied Broma
Broma turned and strode past Dokeo, smiling at the young councillor as he left.
Dokeo moved up until he stood at the center of the half circle.
“What have you to report, councillor Dokeo?” asked Geros, the eldest member of the Daily council and its leader.
“If it pleases the council, I can report that we are prepared to initiate exploration of nearby systems”
“That is good. As the program has been agreed on at the Last council meeting, permission has been granted to begin as soon as possible” dictated Geros.
“And what of the possibility of alien life? ” queried one of the councilwomen, Gigia, one of the leading members of the Elders
“I am not sure if I understand your question, Grandmother” replied Dokeo.
“What is to be done if we meet other races in space” elaborated the councilwoman.
“The problem has been debated in committee, sister” informed Geros.
“I wish for the answer to be on record” replied Gigia.
“Then for the record, please continue Dokeo”.
“As the council wishes” responded Dokeo ”Our technology should surely make it possible to communicate with them and we can convey our concerns at their intruding in what will be ours”.
“And if they do not heed our warnings?. We have no way of knowing if the Aliens will respect our demands. After all they will hardly be looking out for the good of the State as we do”.
“Then we shall have no choice but to pass on responsibility to the Auxiliaries” finished Dokeo. Of course no Auxiliaries were present at a council meeting, but the Guardians would not hesitate to pass responsibility to the military if the State was threatened.
“I am sure that we all agree that no means is to much to guarantee the States security” Put forward Logos, one of the more militant members of the council. It was generally thought the gods had placed a bit too much silver in the mans soul.
“Of course” echoed the general response.
“As we all here agree, and the question is on record, I thank councillor Dokeo for his service” finished Geros
“I live to serve” replied Dokeo as he bowed.
Accepting the Elders permission to depart, Dokeo turned and left the Chamber.
