Main theme + generic theme yes, sub theme with generic theme, no
Ah, I love those subjects that say all
Basically we can add to a main theme a generic theme, like water cult. I wonder why we cant do the same for a sub theme. For example the Navigator theme of Marigon, + water cult.
Well the answer is that the code was not geared to do that, in my opinion. But would it be a pain in the rear part of the body to alter the program for that?

It would be nice to able to take Miasma + Restless Worshippers.

You want to add a theme to a theme. So why not push the point even further, for example, and have Jotunheim with Utgard, Water Cult, Heart of Winter, and Restless Worshippers? The devs have to draw the line somewhere and it looks like they opted for no stacking of themes at all.

Having nation specific themes and generic themes separated so you can take one each would be best, IMO.

This has been suggested a few times. I feel it limits alot of what you can do when you go with themes. (Specifically hot and cold nations).
I would also ask for a reevaluation of the Dpoints for some of the generic themes or their effect.

the main theme IS a theme. But allows you nonetheless to add a generic theme.
Yes, why not stack generic themes? I dont see a problem with that. For example, if you take the wonderful Stars!, a client/server TBS as dominions, you had to choose a Primary Racial trait, then you could pick what ever please you in lesser racial traits, if you can afford the design point cost.
note : some LRT where not compatible, and would disable one or another.

Re: Main theme + generic theme yes, sub theme with generic theme, no
The question I'm asking is how much people actually use the generic themes. I messed around with 'water cult' some, but not much, and aside from that haven't messed with any of them very much. (actually now I remember I played one game with ceremonial faith, but didn't find it that useful)
Maybe if generic themes were stackable with nation-specific themes they would be used more?

I've used Ceremonial Faith, Restless Worshippers and Desert Sun a fair bit. Golem & Water Cult don't seem to be worth the cost in design points.

Re: Main theme + generic theme yes, sub theme with generic theme, no
The problem is that the generic theme are usually not worth their cost, and are only useful with certain nations/strategies.
IMHO we should first have more useful generic themes, then we could stackj them with national themes ..

Negative cost themes might be fun too. Like:
(-50) Robin Hood; An irritating, invisible rebel goes from province to province stealing some of the revenue and raising unrest. He will also occasionally cause commanders to gain the "battle fright" wound.
