Blood level effect on hunting
... they don't seem to influence one another terribly much at higher blood levels.
Blood 2 + SDR seems close to ideal - not per cost but net per turn. At the end of a game i was screwing around with empowering and even at 7-Blood SDR (natural+items) i hardly noticed any difference compared to my 2-Blood SDR searchers.
Its not that Blood doesn't influence the take, but that it seems Blood level isn't as important as the hidden, random variable that is rolled to determine the size of the catch.
I think this is why scouts do so well. On a per-turn basis scouts suck. In fact 7 out of 8 turns scout barely grab any slaves, and usually they miss >50% of the time. But ever 8 or 10 turns they get 'lucky' and nab eight or more. Occasionally a true Blood searcher will find 30+ but this seems extremely rare; more than likely, they get their normal 3-18 and then add the 'lucky' catch like a scout, so that the net effect is to skew the average towards scouts.
Blood - 9 Pretenders always do better than normal Blood searchers, but never THAT much better. 2B+SDR gets usually ~8 turn, 9B+SDR ~ 18ish.
Blood 9 should just be able to say "COME" and fill up on slaves. At least, imo.

Re: Blood level effect on hunting
Yes, but high level blood mages are also more noticeable, as they radiate more power. Their presence thus tends to inspire wild orgies of debauchery amongst the would-be blood slaves. I mean, think about it: If you were a potential blood slave, and YOU heard word that a high-level blood mage had arrived, debauchery would suddenly look like a far more attractive option.

Re: Blood level effect on hunting
SDR is Sanguine Dousing Rod, a misc item that costs 5 blood slaves to produce and gives a bonus(+2?) to the effective blood skill of a blood mage when performing a blood hunt.

Re: Blood level effect on hunting
Ja, but because it's an open-ended d6, there is a lot of randomness there. A high-blood hunter WILL do better, but the difference between a b2+SDR and a b7-SDR will only be on average 5 BSs. The B7 guy will also have a slightly lower chance of getting the "Didnt find any suitable girlies" message.

Re: Blood level effect on hunting
Blood already has a significant impact on the game. If you make it easier to get a larger # of slaves (ala High Blood Pretenders or FoB) then blood will have even more of an impact. If you could hunt up 40-50 a turn with a high end blood pretender, then early game blood would have much more of a significant impact and the entire line must be rethought. Especially for blood heavy nations.

Re: Blood level effect on hunting
I put a text file with an analysis on my website, but on average, you get 1 slave per turn per hunter, plus 1 per blood level, plus 2 for an SDR. I think the FoB pretender gets +6 blood levels.
