Why my Ulm priest are going to make bless ?

I have a quick question:

I'm use to play Ulm and I realize that my priest are use to make bless in the battle. Why ? Ulm has not any sacred units so what is blessing useful for ?

... tips for AI developers:

bless could be cast weighting the number of sacred units in the army and theyr position in the battlefield (I have my priest down in the rear so is not so usefull for them to be belssed)

I'll answer your question with another:

What else are Ulm priests going to do? Would you prefer them to stand on their head and sing "Catholic School Girls"?

Blessing will at the very least give the blessing effects (at leasT: +3 moral) to the priest and to other sacred commanders standing near.
Blessing is nice if you find some sacred Indy troops and commanders.

The priest himself is sacred, so he blesses himself.

What would you want him to do instead? Most priests have only 2 choices. Bless and Banish. You would rather he charge the enemy with a dagger? Even then blessing himself would be a really good idea.

I'd rather the priest throw the dagger at a random direction with a 7% chance of the action summoning 6,000 doom horrors and after the battle, being able to keep the doom horrors.

My solution to this is give the priests wands. Nothing like a bunch of priests armed with rods of the phoenix. Even early in the game sceptre of authority and dragon helmets can give your priests more of a kick. With Ulm's forge bonus, one fire site can make this easy to do early on.
