Re: freezes with linux
Have you tried logging in remotely to kill -9 the process?

Re: freezes with linux
You might try running "host mode". Maybe in text mode. Then open another console, bring up dom2 again and "connect" to the host to play. Hmmmm not sure how that would help...
It sounds like something might be trying to switch your screens or access you in the background.

Re: freezes with linux
Just wanted to add that I have seen similar freezeups with mandrake 9.2, kernel 2.4.22 and also radeon graphics).
Looks like a driver issue to me (?)

freezes with linux
Hi,
I have gentoo linux with 2.4.25 kernel(i also have 2.6.3 kernel) and I'm having lots of freezes with dom2 with both kernels. I have radeon 9200 and drivers for it from portage, i have also tried the latest driver available from the portage. Nothing is doing any good. And I do have latest patch 2.11.
At any point of the game suddenly the game will freeze. Game music keeps running in the background and mice is working, but nothing will take the clicks, not even my kde when i play in window mode. Keyboard is totaly freezed, so I can't change to konsole and terminate dom2. Also it seems that programs in the background keeps running just fine.
What can I do?
Sincerely,
Freexm

That might work, but I don't have another computer, just this one with I'm playing

I need to try, but it might make twice the chance to have freeze or it might reduce it. I'll try.

Hmm, clear me up with that. Do you mean by something would be like some process or the game? And by how/why/what switch my screens?

Yes it does. I have also seen freezes that shuts my monitor at the same way that happens when you take monitor's plug off from the graphic card.
Hmm, because these freezes are so random it makes testing quite time taking. I might be able to play 10 hours without freeze or I might get 10 freezes within hour. But thanks for now, I will report what I come to.

Re: freezes with linux
Ok, I tried run host mode and another dom2 and still it freezed. And about the driver issue, all other games that uses SDL seems to work without freezes thought.
I was thinking if one could make some kind of scrit/deamon whatever to check if dom2 is freezed and therefore kill it, if it is. I know how to make script that can ask me for every ten minutes to confirm that it ain't freezed, but if one can make something not so... mmm... stupid, I would be very happy. The freeze with dom2 isn't that bad because you lost max one turn, but that is when it takes whole system with it. It's not nice to turn power off when you see that you'r linux is doing something at the background. I did lose my kde settings once thought and God knows what I will lose or what I did lose also.
