Funny and surprising ending
A Starspawn priest with a bit of experience and Ritual of Returning cast upon himself finds himself attacked by a Thing of Many Eyes, one of those bizarre immobile creatures.
Well the usual battle ensues. (Instead of firing at it or stabbing it to death, my Starspawn casts his usual buffs and then Earth Grip a dozen or so times.)
Eventually the "independent armies" are routed. But of course the ToME can't move, so my Starspawn casts Earth Grip a few more times. Then the Messages "The independent armies have routed" and "The armies of Ryleh have routed" start flashing on the screen and replacing each other so fast I had to watch this modestly interesting replay twice to read it.
Then my Starspawn dissapears. He's not in the capital, so probably dead.
Always a surprise!

Yea, but with oh so many eyes, you'd think at least one of them would blink first. ^^; The odds would be in your favour.

Re: Funny and surprising ending
Always have the Starspawn (cast buff)x1-5 then (fire). This will prevent death from autorout, since most Void summons are either unroutable (mindless) or immobile. Starspawn priest are never hopeless vs summons, thanks to their life-draining attack.

Re: Funny and surprising ending
I had set to fire.
Starspawn mindbLast has ammo 10. After that he started to cast Earth Grip (Earth Grip!!!). Odd. Normally when my Illithids run out of ammo they RUN out in a beeline for the nearest enemy in an attempt to punch them to death, but not so here.
hee hee!
I thought it was fun

Re: Funny and surprising ending
Strange. I've never noticed this kind of behavior. Once my priests started bLasting/meleeing I've never seen them try to revert to spellcasting.

Hehe. Ya the rules for staring contests must be different in the void.
