Finding time to play....
So this is, most of you have realized, a very good and long game. I'm having a devil of a time finding any time at all to play it! I'm here, at work, on lunch, posting on a board about the game yet I think the next time I'll be able to play it is SUNDAY night for maybe an hour or so. I find this very sad.
So between work, kung fu class, girl, and other face-to-face gaming, trying to paint up me beastie army for WFB (albeit super slowly), and keep up my skills in Warcraft 3 and Quake 3 something has got to give. It's started with WC3 and Q3 of course, but everything else is impossible to give up.
I know a lot of you lot are kids in college or better yet, just out where the gauntlet of real life has yet to descend upon you forever, but those of you stuck straight on the yoke of the wheel of life, how do you manage to get in games? ESPECIALLY MP games?
I was thinking a MP 1-turn per day game that I could play at work, but that opens up an ethical dlilema I can't handle (though I did with evernight for a month or two, but that's browser based).

Re: Finding time to play....
Effectively I can only play one game at a time. In my case time drains are work and class. Right now, the game of choice is DOM2, which is unfortunate because UT2K4 is still fun. Other games like Star Fleet Battles or Star Chamber just have to stop
Probably there is enough time for me to play more than one of those if I make good use of weekends, but I only have enough concentration for one at a time

Re: Finding time to play....
Time to post the warnings again? Didnt that make it into the demo?
WARNING: this game is NOT suitable for students, interns, apprentices, or anyone else who is expected to pass tests on a regular basis. Do not think about Dominions strategys while operating heavy machinery. The demo has built-in protections which should not be bypassed. They are for your health as much as for monetary reasons. Do not begin on the full Version without first making arrangments for someone to check on you daily. If you find that your game has continued for more than 36 hours straight then you should consult a physician immeadiately (Do NOT show him the game!)
Awhh Im only half serious.
But you know everything has its pros and cons. The game is a GREAT PbEM game. Its almost impossible to even try to explain to people about it being a game where you do one turn a day, and thats enough to keep you playing.

Re: Finding time to play....
I currently play in 4-5 PBEM and sometimes a few single player test games. I run my own business as a Controls Engineer -Industrial Automation (boring PLC ladder logic programming should have learned more C++ so I could program more interesting things like games!) I usually work 8-10 hr days and have no problem finding 1-2 hrs to make my turns. My secret? I do not own one single TV. Throw out those idiot boxes (TV's) and you would be amazed on how much more time you have available.

Unreal Tournament 2004. It's a cream dream. The deathmatch is still just a notch below quake 3, but the CTF and bombing run, let alone onslaught, are fantastic. The graphics are also astounding. The series was good with 2003, now it's great.

I have a TV, but have no time to watch it.
Maybe we should start "Dominions addicts" therapy.
"Hi, I am Daynarr and I am a Dom 2 addict".

Re: Finding time to play....
being without a tv helps.
honestly though, the whole MP thing is the reason why I like this game so much, exactly because I don't have 5 hours at a time to blow. So I do MP games with a turn every day or every two days, which takes anything from 15 minutes to 30 minutes (ok occasionally longer, but only occasionally) because I don't have much time.

Re: Finding time to play....
Im majorly hoping we can get Johan interested in adding some extensive AI routines to the game. Not because I care if its smarter since I dont do that well against it now. I just want the host processing to take longer.
Sometimes thats the only thing saving my life. I hit HOST and suddenly realize my bladder is about to burst, or that the sounds I was hearing wasnt the game but my stomach, or I realize I have to get up in 4 hours if I ever get around to going to sleep at all. And even then it doesnt help as much as it should because it hosts so fast on my machine that I think "I will just open the turn and take a quick look"
(B-A-A-A-D move!)
