Base Space Yard bug??
Just a quick question. There is a limit of ONE space yard per ship/base right?? If this is indeed so then why do I see the AI currently building space stations (1500kt) with 2 yards???
Stats: se4 1.35, tdm-modpack and a ship AI of my own design, but space yards have only been modded to include weapons, did not change any of the other values.

Here is the design_creations.txt. I am working on the StarWars AI for Kuat Drive Yards. So far all of them are working fine, but this race is the only one which is designing the Space Yard with 2 components.
It was comissioned on turn 61, 1500kt size, has 1bridge, 4life, 4crew, 1yard I, 5 shield V, 3 Scatter III armour, 1yard I, 5 capital missile V, and an Ecm III.
Maybe this is a random thing, like a 1 in a million chance that the 'one per limit' either dosn't apply or gets 'broke'. The station has both 'space yard' and 'component repair' as abilities, could this be why???

I've seen BSY's with two or more space yard comps before, it's some sort of oddball glitch with the design creating. Then again the AI seems to be able to violate all sorts of rules when designing stuff. I made a cybernetic component that had offensive and defensive bonuses and even with the one per ship restriction the AI still manages to put two on a ship.

Definately have seen that and wish it could be expanded on. Seems like only the AI is able to design them.
You can get the AI to design one for you by editing your design of the spaceyard and baseyard ships. Once they are designed you can build them.
Most of the races in the Dev mod will do this, check it out by starting a high tech game and view the AI designs after a turn or two.

I think it is because the yard has both the space yard and component repair as abilities. When the AI gets to the component repair ability, it simply checks for the best available repair component, without regard to any of the other abilities that particular component has. Once it makes a determination, there is no check to see if there are any other rules broken. Humans can't design it that way because we're not operating off a script so a space yard is simply a space yard and not potentially a repair component. There are a number of areas where the rules are broken because there is no checking of the results of a particular move or action ( like the minefield limit, it only checks to see if the minefield is over or under a 100 before letting you add to it. Once it determines it is under it lets you add to it, but there is no further check to see if what you add takes you over the 100 limit) just the legality of making the move or action. As viewed by the AI as a repair component, it would be a legal design based on the script. We could probably help the AI by purposefully using this to boost their capabilities.

Have you taken over the AI player to see if it gets the benfit from having two space uards, ie double production?

Yep, I've seen this myself. You can either remove the requirement for repair ability OR... you can change the order of the components in the text file. If you put repair bays ahead of space yards in components.txt I think it will add only one space yard and then add repair bays if there is extra space.

Deathstalker-
Try removing Space Yard from the Majority component, and use the Majority component for something else, a space Yard will still be placed on the station as it is covered by the 'Must Have' line.
By the order that the components were placed it looks like the problem I found where components listed as 'Must Have' are not included when placing components later, and since the size was large enough, it tried to place a second ship yard when it reached the Majority component.

Thanx for the help guys, though I am not totally annoyed at this bug, anything to help out the AI!(but it probally just doubles repair rate, I doubt it actually helps with build rate).
Will do with the 'must haves', fun line to play with.(playing around with ship designs that have 'component repair' as a must have right now, just think ships that repair themselves!).
