Default Conquest: Frontier Wars

Has anybody tried this game out yet?

I purchased it a couple of weeks ago when it was cheap at CompUsa (only reason I bought it).

I found it to be very fast paced, AI hard to defeat (I didn't say it was good, just hard to defeat) and great for combat.

Overall I thought is was pretty good, but it had a very low number of total ships you could create. Build 40 dreadnoughts and you get nothing else for your empire.

Also found tech tree limited. Some good ideas first time around.

Alas I found it did not have any staying power, it is now collecting dust on my shelves.

If you have not purchased it, you may want reconsider whether to but it or not. For your extra money you get two pretty good races, not a lot of extra techs, and some okay campaigns.

I played the demo. The AI IS hard, largely because it defends well and recovers fast. I found carriers to be almost useless, but other ships were pretty useful. The inclusion of admirals was great, but in the end it wasn't enough to keep me interested.

Based on the demo play, I did not pick this one up. It has some innovative ideas and great looking space battles, but I did not like that fact that you could not "give orders" in the "pause" mode. To me, this option converts any RTS game into a game that is appealable to a broader market of players who prefer turn-based games. Kohan is a good example of this.
