Tactical Rockets
During test of difrents icons pockets from this forum I found a Toczka tactical rocket icon. Are the plans of use a tactical rockets in the path?
I have some propositions:
Icons of tactical rockets vehicles like SCUD , Toczka etc. should be a mision element normaly vehicles without fire . For mision like: Your SF moust find and destroy a SCUD misile lanucher.
Secound type schould be off map artilery with small ammo load but very precisious like aircrafts. So you have call on batelfield for Tactical rockets division and they bombard with rockets a traget.
Is that posible this implementation whithout big code changes?

Re: Tactical Rockets
Hello. One thing to consider for a tactical rocket/missile (off-map)is using an 'invisible' aircraft icon, armed with a PGM (air to ground) with the warhead you deem suitable. With the wonderful standoff attacks now used in the glorious patch, you may be able to simulate the weapon you wish for.

Re: Tactical Rockets
You have right invisible aircraft icon should be good don't need a code change but I don't now aircraft always fire his rockets when entered map or some time leater where is near the traget.

AAA will still fire at an iunvisible rocket, and stand-off SAM at any off map rocket firing plane.
As to your earlier question - SCUD type missiles are irrelevant to the game, really. Someone made a SCUD vehicle icon for scud huntin missions (it would be a truck with a high VP value probably ?).
However - with the new blast radius code, then a single warhead of large size may work?. Try the 2000lb bomb stats as a starter, on a single rocket MRL ?. (may need changing to a cluster weapon as with MLRS, to get a decent impact effect ?). But they really are corps and army level devices, not for tactical use. If your troops are close enough to fire 120mm mortars, why use a battlefield support rocket?.
Cheers
Andy

Re: Tactical Rockets
Yes, it is true. I remember when I attempted a Copperhead round from the venerable M198 155. It never achieved its accuracy. Althought there were some interesting results. I agree with the wise and noble Mobhack, who through his ingenuity had created his wonderous program to attempt such creations. I would say that this concept may work on such a weapon as a Tactical Anti-Airfield Missile, which is mostly a cruise missile that deploys cluster munitions. Sorry for the invisible aircraft theory.

Re: Tactical Rockets
The invisible Air craft does work.
Set the PGM up as range 255, then it out strips almost all AAA ranges. If you set the Damage on the aircraft to 0 as well it will apear, launch, then crash without useing up AAA fire.

Yes, that was basically the point, the FROG-7 icons were primarily meant to be used as igh-value targets, since mostly the minimal range of such rockets exceed 10km (actually even that of the Smerch which I spent a lot of time drawing...).

Andy, you have to admit that there are already a number of division-level-and-above support assets available, if only strategical SAMs. In some OOBs (Russia being the most evident exemple) you also find long-range artillery tubes and MRLs (namely 2S7 and Smerch) which are generally used only inside an artillery division.
So IMHO one could consider having heavy support available for some rare cases, admittedly not on a common basis for your average company-on-company skirmish! These would be things available either to scenario designers for example.

Plasma

So it would only be for assault missions, like how you only have access to naval gunfire support for beach landing missions.

Re: Tactical Rockets
That was how I considered it, but I guess that this would need a good deal of hard coding, and it being really not on the top-priority list of the Camo Team (which can be understood) means that such a feature will probably have to be forgotten in the near future.
This being considered, a player-only choice should be the best alternative for now, if ever these things are implemented.
Now I still haven't had the opportunity to test it, so I don't know how this would be modelled the best, for the sake of appearances I'd tend to stick to high-accuracy single-shot artillery rockets, cluster or not, but I don't know wether they would be accurate enough.
