Default Sugesting petrifiy for immortality

With the new old age sytsetm you can exepct you're powerfull mages to die even if they never leave you're fortress. Since this is a major downgrade in the power of magic I'd like to recomend a solution:

A new spell for alteration allows you to petrify your mages into immortal rock. They can't do anything except keep old enchantments alive and if you lose their provience then you lose the mages and those enchantments

Boots of Youth or any other item that stop aging is much easier to accomplish, and doesn't have those side-effects. But it is an interesting idea.

GoH always has been a good spell, but now Twiceborn has became a *very* useful spell with Dom3 aging. Those Bakemono sorcerors all quabble to be the first to have it cast !

Do boots of youth stop old people getting afflictions? or do you need to provide them before they get old?

I suppose twiceborn+boots workd for everyone but a simple spell anyone can use would be nice

There is no simple spell anyone can use. Not even a simple spell any nation can use. There are spells and items that most nations can use, or spells and items that most nations can use if they happen to get one of many kinds of common independents (Endless Vineskins come to mind). But that spell would be quite powerful, and thus require at least level 2 in some path, and so would be out of reach of some nations. Perhaps many nations, if it required something most nations don't have easy access to.

Is there any item other than the boots? Right now it seems that only blood nations can keep from losing their mages.

... and don't forget that one rank in nature magic add 25 years to the lifespan of a human mage (it will even remove the "old age icon" if the mage is now under the new limit, but of course it don't remove afflictions that he already have).

It doesn't? I thought it did. I'll have to test that.

EDIT: You're right. It doesn't. I wonder how I got that confused.

Lycantroph Amulet has a per turn chance of transforming your mage into a random monster. The monster is usally not troubled by Old Age. Note that the amulet is cursed and make the wearer "gone berserk".
