Re: OT: Movies You Have Seen Lately
MI III
Not a bad movie visually but one very weak plot. Whoever directed this movie knew what he was doing as there were some very well done visuals. The plot was so thin that it made Tom Cruise look stupid. There was one line by L. Fishburn (sp) that I truely loved though... "I would bleed on the flag to keep the stripes red."
Equalibrium
I mentioned this movie before but wanted to bring it up again as it is truly one of the best movies I have seen in years. Read the reviews of this movie on amazon.com
Thank You For Smoking
Simpmly one of the more brillant dark humor dramas I have seen in a while. A delightfully clever movie based upon a best selling book. MOD were funny and could be a movie in their own right. I enjoyed this movie and intend to buy the DVD when I can aford it.
Lucky Number Sleven
An interesting revenge flick with some long sequences that could put even the most hyperactive kid to sleep. I think this was a short story at some point. The movie isn't bad but does have some very slow moments. Over all I think they didn't know what direction to take this movie in, is it a dark comedy or a serious revenge flick...

Equilibrium: This movie was a total surpise to me, but I enjoyed the hell out of it. A damn fine flick.Christian had an excellent range, BTW, and I seriously recommend " The Machinist". Seems slow, but all comes together so well at the end.
Thank You For Smoking: Damn, somebody was dead-on with this one. It's scary to know that these kinds of people ARE really out there !!!
I haven't seen the other two yet, but they're on my to-do list...

I don't think it takes a thin plot to make Tom Cruise look stupid; he's very capable of doing that on his own

Re: OT: Movies You Have Seen Lately
Rented Volume I of Rome which was pretty good. I haven't decided if it is worth renting the following 4-5 discs to see the end of the season, but I enjoyed the centurion and Pullo's discourse quite thoroughly.
EDIT - Just remembered to add - sex and violence are a part of this series. Don't rent planning to sit down with your kids to watch. Unless you like explaining things.

Re: OT: Movies You Have Seen Lately
AVP - Alien Verses Predator
When I first saw this movie I utterly hated it. I mean I just fricken dispised it. Recently I learned that they are making a sequal to this movie. Aliens and Predators are at war and they bring the fight to a small town in the US and the citizans must fight them both to survive. Sound lame as hell to me, kinda like the abismal plot of Alien 3.
I like Alien. It hought it was a bold, dark, compelling movie that thankfully was skillfully given an exceptional sequal; Aliens.
Aliens was without a doubt one of the most impressive movies I have ever seen. It hold a place as one of my top five most favorite movies.
Alien 3 was just a major unfiltered disappointment on an epic scale of failure. My opinion of this movie and what it did to the Alien franchise became so low that they would have to work very hard indeed to dissapoint me again.
And then comes Alien 4. WTF was this movie about? Answer, put a bunch of semi-good actors on a space station and have them fight it out. Orginally this was going to be an AVP movie but they ditched the Predator parts and re-wrote the movie to be just an alien movie. BIG F'ing mistake. Had they kept the original script as an AVP script, then the movie might have been special.
AVP - As I said, I really hated this movie when it first came out. I have this rule, if I hate a movie I will watch again in a year or so. Well its been over two years and I finally decided to watch AVP again, the extended version.
I have to say that I was wrong about this movie. It was a very good movie and I don't recall why I hated it so. I found that the extended version made more sense than the theatrical version. I like the attention to detail that they had in the movie. The plot was only weak in a few areas, (Such as from the time of face hugger victim 1 to the first full grown alien attack was only about 20 minutes or two changes in the pyramid. Astect time every 10 nimutes.
The were more aliens than there were people, I think 12 aliens overall and only 9 victims.
I like the way they did many of the things in this movie. In retrospect I was very unfair to this movie and just wanted to set the record strait.

Re: OT: Movies You Have Seen Lately
Behind Enemy Lines 2
Ok here was a movie that I just knew was going to be a bad movie. A real B movie of epic proprotions. I avoided renting it simply because I knew that it was just a B flick with bad actors and a ****ty plot.
Well I finally broke down and watch this movie and let me say this for it, it was one hell of a good movie. I was completely taken back by the qaulity of its production values, solidiness of its story and plot. I especially enjoyed all of the great attention to detail like the fog in the plane as the SEAL team was preparing to drop. That detail is often overlooked in B budge movies. But in this movie they had it.. very cool detail.
The plot is based around the "mysterious" real life unexplained explosion in North Korea.
The writer took that real life incident and made a movie around it. The Players were all named differantly, but you get the sense that they were strongly based off of the current administration. (See the movie and you'll understand.)
There were so many small things, from good dialog to very good dialog. I really enjoyed the North Korean General, the south Korean Ambassador, and US Admiral and General performances. The cast was a great ensamble group of vetetrin actors.
What was really a nice touch was that the movie didn't leave you hanging. It actually had a very good well thought out and conclusive ending. You would expect a movie like this to end with the rescue of the remaining SEAL members from North Korea, but it went far further in detail and for that I am very thankful.
If you haven't yet seen this movie, I would recommend it. It is in the rental stores now and is well worth the price.
I liked this movie so much I am going to buy the DVD.

Rocky Balboa
WOW - I have to say that is was a very good movie. I honestly went into it with mixed feelings and came out surprised and pleased.
This was a very good movie and you would be giving yourself a treat if you go and see it.
7 out of 10 (Worth Seeing full price at the theaters.)

I have to agree, this was a good flick. If you enjoyed the first two I think you'll like this one.

Re: OT: Movies You Have Seen Lately
Casino Royale
Today I saw the latest James Bond movie. It has the new guy, Daniel Craig, as Bond and he's good. Compared to the previous guy who tended to joke around sometimes, he is more tough and serious, and the movie has somewhat of a darker tone. Lots of action and violence, and no unrealistic secret gadgets like the other movies. A pretty good movie.
