RE: purchasing ship mod idea

Has anyone created a mod where you can purchase ships yet?

If not would it be possible without any special workarounds?

If not could you do it by using the following:

By having a permanent quest at Hope where Hope sells coins that are replaced when purchased (or just available en masse) of various types (one type of coin for each vessel to be purchased). Vessels requiring more than value 5 to purchase would require that you have more than one coin of that type in your inventory (ship costs 12, so three coins of value 4 each). The description for how to purchase would be in the item description for the coin, along with an image of the vessel to be purchased. Returning to Hope with the designated number of coins in cargo removes coins and adds said ship to fleet. Would that work?

PS: I suck at this stuff so if this is interesting to anyone feel free to do it, because I can't.
