Troops?

This is kind of a basic question, but how do troops work? Do I have to design a cargo ship to carry them? Do I then drop them off on the enemy world? How do I get them past the planet defenses?

build a ship with lots of armor and a handfull of cargo components, give it "capture planet" strat. pick on an undefended colony.

you can stick it in your fleets too, but other ships keep firing at the planet even when your ship has launched its troops. it's hard to take a defended planet.
