Baalz will become famous soon enough
Default AN damage

Do AN melee attacks (gate cleaver, dusk dagger) effectively ignore the shield parry bonus?

Wait...

Does that mean a D9 bless makes the unit wielding the +2 AN damage weapon gets to ignore the opponent's shield parry?

When a shield parry happens, it doesn't deflect all damage, just adds to the defender's armor. So, if a death bless weapon is stopped by a shield, the weapon's regular damage will have a much tougher armor roll to make, but the death bless damage/effects will happen as usual.

Oh, so only the 2 points would go through? And only if they fail their MR check? Boo, death bless still sucks.

Death bless does not suck. it has its uses. It won;t help much in early expansion, but aginst SC's death bless is a better one to have then a fire bless. Not to mention it makes evocation spells that much more deadly.

Just to add more detail, for those that don't know: there was a thread earlier somewhere, where it was revealed that the death bless applies to damaging spells (i.e. Fireball). The Fire bless does not.

--Although I'm not sure why a death bless would be considered better against SCs, except perhaps for suicidal infliction stacking...

Yeah if there's a MR roll involved I don't see how it would be useful against an SC, apart from the afflictions, which require you to actually damage them with your hugely outclassed sacreds.

It might be easier to get them to fail an MR roll than to fail a protection roll against a mere 6AP. Even with +4 attack from F8 you're not going to get many unshielded hits, and that means you're probably up against 25-30 prot including the shield.

More importantly, F9's bonus damage is fire, SCs are likely to have resists. If they've fought you before they've probably paused a battle replay to check your bless effects at some point, which means any SCs they field after that point will probably be packing 75% or better fire resist.

Don't forget that when that 2AN damage lands:
1) The actual damage dealt is modified by 2d6OE for both sides. So you might do 0, but you also might do 10+ if you get a lucky roll.
2) If you have D9, then you have D8, so the damage comes with extra affliction chance. A lot of extra affliction chance, like triple. For best results combine with curse.
3) As with F9, multiple attacks all receive the effect, increasing your chance to damage and afflict.

Some of the most heavily armored units have low MR (Ulm for example) and you can also lower their MR by fighting in +2 or greater magic scale.

If we're thinking of the same thread, the minor Death bless (increased affliction chance) affects all kinds of damage types, including spells, but the major Death bless only affects melee and missile weapons, just like Fire bless only affects melee weapons. If I've missed something about the armor-negating damage of Death 9 being added to the spells' own damage, I'd like to see the thread in question.
