Quick mechanics question
Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, but if so, I can't find it! I just got the game recently and love it, but could use some quick help from an expert...
If I have a hero, with army, and set the hero to "preach" in a province with a fortress, does he count as inside or outside the fortress walls? (is he similar to patroling, or similar to defending?)
Thanks for any help!

Re: Quick mechanics question
Im pretty certain that any commanders without the patrol command count as inside the fortress.

Re: Quick mechanics question
Related question.
Suppose you have a mage leading a bunch of magical and mundane troops, in a province with a castles and laboratory. Now suppose that this province is under siege.
If this mage is researching, do his troops count towards the fortification damage calculations, or do all these troops go to waste if the mage is not set to 'defend'?

Re: Quick mechanics question
I believe defenders always help fix the walls (even leaderless troops)

I believe mindless troops only count as 1/10 the value as a non-mindless unit.

Re: Quick mechanics question
I believe that is the case, but fortunately, I have access to summons who are not mindless.

His troops do count towards defending/repairing the castle.

Re: Quick mechanics question
Everyone inside repairs. Only 'siege'-ing units outside tears down walls. Unless I'm mistaken
