Promotion Question
I have been unable to find the answer to this elsewhere. I have in a platoon of one of my tiger companies an Obergefreiter with enough success that I have renamed him Wittman;-) I want to promote this tank and tank commander to Platoon leader, possibly later Company Commander. I am almost certain I have read somewhere that this can be done, but I cannot seem to find it again in the manual or FAQ or here. Can someone provide me with a bit of help?
Thanks in advance

Re: Promotion Question
Platton Leader is possible.
In you next battle, keep him safely on the back line: send everyone else forwards and ensure that they die. Rally any dismounted crews and send them forward again to Valhalla. Et voila!

Re: Promotion Question
Thanks, but... no thanks, sacrificing 3 experienced Tiger crews to promote one person would be a bit silly would it not?
I thought there was a game mechanic somewhere to do it. Apparently there is not.
I would suggest that for the next patch I think.

Re: Promotion Question
I think there's a less drastic way - IIRC if you cross-attach units to other formations, your attached unit (based on I-don't-know-what rule) may end up as the "0" unit of the formation.

Re: Promotion Question
The 'rule' is that if a leader is promoted 'down' the unit roster he becomes the #0 of the unit he is attached to. So if you attach D4 to formation E unit D4 becomes E0. Attach him to formation C and he gets to the end of the list (C5 or something like that).

Re: Promotion Question
Thanks, narwan, never spent enoug time by figuring it out so accepted it as "stuff happens"... Then the answer how to make leaders (and let them be promoted) is clear.

Re: Promotion Question
A good way to use it is to add a new platoon of the same type somewhere. Then promote the experienced crew by attaching them to the 'rookie' platoon (making them the leader) and put one of the new units in the platoon with the 'old' experienced platoon.

Re: Promotion Question
That can only be done if he is the de facto Platoon Leader already. Remember, his number does not change as casualties affect the troops - B0, C0 are not necessarily the Leaders that their designation suggests.
By cross-attaching the remainder away, you could end up with a two-unit Platoon (and as he's playing Tigers, that's not a problem)
In Long Campaigns, the Platoon Leader is often an APC or a Truck....

Re: Promotion Question
Thanks for the suggestions, I guess that is what I will try as there is indeed an M-platoon in the company he can be attached to. But, he should actually be Company commander, would it happen if he was attached to the company command of the next lower company?
I would still suggest to make it a possibility to promote NCOs that do well. Happened historically (Wittman started his career this very way), so in case the staff should get bored and needs something to do;-) there is some little thing to amuse them...
Again, thanks.
