Default Robo Miners - How to use them ?

Hi !

First my (simple) Question, then a statement:

How can I use "Robot Miners" ?
Resp. how can I mine asteroid belts
without colonize them ?

I am sure that you can answer this.
If yes - can you write it Step
by Step - cause I am rather dumb.

If you have found "Robot Miners" and how
to use them in the Manual - tell me
the Link.

----
I am new to this Game. I like it very much,
(You know what I mean: "What ? Its 3 O'clock
in the morning and I played this 7 hours ?!?!).

But the Manual and Tutorial suck - sorry.

As I can see in this Forum, newbies like
me are unrepresented.
Stand up nubs !!!
I would like to hear an answer from anybody
who is new in this game too, even if the answer doesnt answer my question (uhm.. nice sentence).

Thanks in advance for your answers.

I'm a newbie too

You need to place robominer components in a satellite or ship and then move or deploy it in the asteroid field or empty planet. The mining process is automatic.

But I don't understand why the asteroid or planet lose value

Well I constructed a ship and moved to the
belt - but how can I see that it works ?
And do I have just to move back to the
Planet when mining is done ?

Dr A Cula, you are not only newby, I am a newby and a champion of newby rights!

Remote mining by the robo miners in your ship is completely automatic. Move the ship to the planet or asteroid belt and you should see a sort of pinky mine cart icon appear on the ship display panel (right hand side of the screen) - this indicates that remote mining is going on

Also, if you look in the empire status window, crown thingy top left panel, you will see that your empire is now gaining revenue from the remote mining

1 word of warning, at early tech levels, the income earned by remote mining may not match the maintenance cost of your ship so you need to keep a weather eye on this. When you develop large satellite tech, you can build remote miners into those and deploy satellites all over the shop.

As to why remote mining permanently reduces resource levels, dunno, that is just the game and one of the clever pros on this thread will need to answer that one

Growltigga ,
I'm not a "clever pro", but I'm sure the reason for running out of resourses from mining is "play ballence". They would have to make the Robo Cops too expensive to build if there were no limitations on them. I could make up some "Sci Fi" explanation but I think "play balance" is sufficient.

first, thanks gurduloo for clarifying that, I forgot to mention it - doooohhhhh

secondly, gryph, play balance is possibly the reason although personally, I never understand why 2000 million people on a planet beavering away doesn't strip resources (ok ok unless finite resources are on) but a bunch of dopey robots would - ok ok I could see why this would apply to the localised asteroid fields you get in SEIV but not generally

just some ideas GT

There is a line in the Setting.txt file that states something to the effect Mining reduces asteroid value = true or false and is set to true unless it is changed by you.

GrowlTigga,
Not "logic" to it, that is why it falls into the "Sci Fi" catagory. It is sorta like trying to put limits on magic in a Fantacy game. In the original Dungeons and Dragons you could only use a spell once befor having to "Re Learn" it.

Actaully the D&D memorizing of spells make perfect sense (as far as magic can).

Most people just get confused by the langauge used to describe how it works.

One of the books explained it quite well though.
You see after you cast a spell its not that you no longer "know" how to cast it.
Its not that you no longer "know" the spell.

Its simply that when you memorize a spell you are locking energy in a preset pattern in your mind.
This is the prerequisite for casting a given spell.Consider it a component if that helps.
Its a little like a partial precast.
When you cast the spell the energy in your mind that is locked in the set pattern is used as well as energy from other sources(clerical,planes,etc..)
Once the energy pattern is gone from your mind, you can no longer cast the spell.
But you still know it,and you still know how to cast it.
You simply can't cast it again becuase part of the spells requirements(the energy pattern in your mind) is no longer there.
You must now "memorize" the spell again, this puts the energy back in your mind in the pattern required for the spell.

Of course with the "new" powergamers Version -3rd edition .This no longer holds fully true.

As for the topic of the robo miners,I really have no clue.
Oddly enough Ive never used them.

Two best uses for Robominers, on Sats (once they are large enough, no maintenance cost) and on bases (reduced maintenance cost). Otherwise they tend to be more expensive then what they mine. Just remember that with sat Groups 1 does the same amount as 100 sats.
