I'd prefer to think of the blood slaves in terms of older south american (though certainly not limited to there) sacrifices; selected and kept that way for religious purposes.

Speaking of blood slaves, I always thought it was a special quality in their blood that rendered them special, not the fact they still got their hymen.
Maybe descendants from the gods. Who maybe do need some compensation for all the goodness they bring to their people.
