Default Can you use \'move and patrol\' to reduce unrest?

I'm moving units from another province to my capital with the move and patrol command -- will this reduce unrest there on the same turn?

Yes. They will patrol after they end movement.

AFAIK, it will not reduce unrest or catch sneakers. Tested several times.

Its possible that patrolling for scouts/spies happens before friendly movement, which is when Move and Patrol order would be executed. Dont have my manual handy so I cant confirm.

Patrolling for sneakers is one of the last events in the turn (it can be seen in the turn messages), however, it seems that units on "Move and patrol" don't actually do patrol. They just go and stay outside the walls.

Maybe it should be called "Move and defend province instead". That would be clearer.

No, that would be more confusing, because the idea is to differentiate it from the default of having the "defend" command when you reach the castle.
Should be "move and patrol castle"

In that case it should be called 'Sharon'. That removes all ambiguity.
