To match up with the game, shouldn't whatever sound is determined to be the best MG-42 representation be file 117.wav instead?
I wonder if the museum at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds up the road from me will loan me their MG-42 for an afternoon to make a new sound file...I promise to clean it before I give it back

Hi Ross,
Thanks for this info; you are right that the main MG42 sound is 117.wav. There was an error in my sound guide that had the MG42 as 54.wav
To clarify, Cross Sounds Doesn’t change the OOB or sound map at all; so it’s only the sound guide that’s wrong. If you have CS installed, the game will still use the ‘correct’ sound. The MG42 also uses 55.wav sometimes, and the MG34 sometimes uses 117.
But as you pointed out, it would be better if the best MG42 sound was named 117.wav
I will make sure I use the best MG34 sound for 55.wav and the best MG42 sound for 117.wav in the next release.
As soon as I’ve changed a few other sounds I’ll release CS 1.1 with the improvements.
I’m now only about 90 minutes from The Aberdeen Proving Grounds myself. But haven’t got there yet. As soon as the weather gets decent in the spring I plan to take my boys there.
I do use youtube sometimes to try to nail down what weapons and vehicles should sound like. Youtube sound quality isn't the greatest, but if you listen to few videos you can get a good idea.
cheers,
Cross
