A Friendly Reminder

As a friendly reminder please do not use images or files without first contacting the person who's files and images they are.

For the most part I could care less if any of the images I have collected, made, or developed are used by any of you for whatever purpose you wish.

However, when it is stated in the information that comes with the race that the images are NOT to be used else where without prior permission, please do not use them until you have contacted me and received permission.

In order to use some of the images I had to obtain permission from the image creator, and when someone uses that image(s) without first contacting me, it violates my agreement with the artist of said image(s).

I sincerely appreciate the use of these images, and do not wish to alienate the artist who made them, so please if it is stated in the Race info that you must contact me first, please do so. Most of the images are fair game, but a few are not.

Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

Um, does this mean if I would like to use it in a play by web game I should clear it with you?

Huuh ?? IMHO if a graphic set is released on the web players can use it at leisure *as long as* they use it unmodified and in its original package - ie I can use Atrocities' Trek race sets for my PBW races but should ask him if a I want to mix some of his ships with other graphics to make a "new" shipset or use say the ship bmps as components in a mod...

Thanks, Since for my home use I have changed the Race Portait I need to clear it with the creator first.

As for my question sounding strange, well, I have a very impulsive nature and am trying to be much more careful.

IMHO you can do what you want with these graphic FOR PRIVATE USE, i.e. at home or in your PBW game. However, you cannot distribute these pictures as your own or mix them up in a new way and distribute that.

I didn't mean any offence when replying, the "uuh"" was rather to express that I don't see why we should ask authorization to use published shipsets...
Neither do you have to ask anything if you tinker *privateky* with the graphics (this includes PBW) ! Only if you want to make modified sets public ...

Typically the difference comes in when the shipset is posted on PBW. If a shipset has been posted on PBW in the shipset libray, you can assume that the author has given his permission for it to be used in any PBW games. This isn't ALWAYS the case. I have one now that I need to remove becuase someone modified it and uploaded it without permission. But typically if it's on there you can use it without special permission.

Where you need permission with regards to PBW shipsets is if there is one that has not been posted and you want to use it in a game, you need to get permission before uploading it to the shipset file library. Just out of common curteousy.

ANy set availible for download is FREE TO USE.

The problem is when people modify the images or take and use images without first asking. I could care less if any image I have created, gathered, or develed is used by anyone for any purpose. So long as they let me know they are doing it, include a credit if they can, and understand that I want to add their finished set to my ever growing collection.

However, there are a few images that I had to ask permission to use and those images I have specific use terms for. You all understand this, and I thank you for you support.
