Dom Love On Three Moves Ahead
Forgot to mention this when it went live, but the latest Three Moves Ahead (a strategy gaming podcast) devotes a good portion of it talking about Dominions 3. Listen to Episode Three here.

Re: Dom Love On Three Moves Ahead
Cool! I actually just discovered Chick and Geryk's stuff yesterday. I never actually connected "Bruce Geryk, guy who plays games with Tom Chick, generally loses, and records said games for posterity" with "Bruce Geryk, guy who wrote the Dominions 3 manual". It's an interesting coincidence, how soon this is after I realized that these two exist.

Re: Dom Love On Three Moves Ahead
Apparently there's a Pokemon mod for dominions. I haven't seen it.
They express a lot of interest in a Lord of the Rings mod for Dominions. Totally doable and something I'd do if I liked LOTR more than Warhammer as a setting, but doesn't exist. There is a Rohan mod which gives an idea of what it might be like.

Darkwind, ask Tom Chick which game's manual he wrote.

There is a pretty good LOTR map out there. I've played it and liked it, it's pretty accurate. Watch out for those Tolkien estate lawyers though. They are vampires.

Re: Dom Love On Three Moves Ahead
I'm not sure I'd be too fond of a LOTR mod for Dominions, as the concept of magic is so radically different as to make it a little... hard to implement.

Re: Dom Love On Three Moves Ahead
Yeah, I agree. You'd probably have to have almost no mages. With no mages, Dominions would become not too great a game, I think.

Re: Dom Love On Three Moves Ahead
And with mages it would just be LOTR until magic took over.
Still it could be interesting. Not that I'm going to do it. Not that I'm interested in someone else doing it unless they're good at modding and graphics.

Re: Dom Love On Three Moves Ahead
You'd just need to flavour it as the first or second age of middle-earth. They had mages, supercombatants, dragons and balrogs to boot. Not to mention all their artifacts.

Re: Dom Love On Three Moves Ahead
I actually thought the podcast was rather incoherent and ill-informed. However, Bruce Geryk said dominions was the best game ever, so thumbs up!
